Wallabies to face Ireland at Sydney Cricket Ground

Sydney - The Wallabies will play at the Sydney Cricket Ground for the first time in 34 years when they face Ireland in 2020, Rugby Australia announced on Friday.

The Test on July 11 will be the second in a two-match series against the Irish, with the first in Brisbane a week earlier.

Renovations at Allianz Stadium and ANZ Stadium have forced a move to the SCG, which was the original home for the Wallabies, hosting Australia's first-ever Test match in 1899.

"Returning there in 2020 for the second Test against Ireland will be a nostalgic experience for those who watched Test matches there through the 60s, 70s and 80s," said Rugby Australia chief Raelene Castle.

Australia and Ireland, who were both knocked out of the World Cup in quarter-finals, last played each other at the SCG in 1979, with the only other battle between the two nations at the venue in 1967.
