The loss is not the end of the world, of course.
If the Boks beat Italy, Namibia and Canada - as expected - then they will qualify for the quarter-finals and meet one of Ireland or Scotland.
There is still a long way to go ...

Cheslin Kolbe was absolutely brilliant in a losing cause and was the obvious standout from a South African perspective.
Half-backs Faf de Klerk and Handre Pollard, though, have had better days.
21 Sep 2019
The Boks were better in the 2nd half, but they were still not consistently good enough on the day.
Missed tackles hurt them, as did aimless kicking and an inability to win the ball in the air.
21 Sep 2019
80' Hooter has gone and Boks win the scrum penalty.
They set up the lineout, and they will look to secure a losing bonus point now ...

76' Another UNREAL run from Kolbe! He is stopped short again, and the ABs make the turnover and kick ahead ...
The Boks then come back and Le Roux looks to have put Jantjies through, but Garces reckons that's a forward pass!
The small moments like that just haven't gone the Boks' way today ...

72' Penalty to the All Blacks!
That won't go down well with the Boks and referee Garces is booed by the SA fans.
If Barrett kicks this, then that should the end of the contest. Garces reckons the Boks were offside.
Kick is about 38m out and pretty much in front.
Jantjies on for De Klerk.
21 Sep 2019
70' A couple of kicks for either side ends with Pollard being knocked into touch. ABs have a linoyed in Bok half.
RG Snyman on for Etzebeth ...

66' Mo'unga makes no mistake. Was actually from a more difficult angle and range than I initially thought.
SA 13-20 NZ

21 Sep 2019
61' Smith goes to the air again, but this time Reece knocks on. The Boks will have the put-in about 60m out.
Mbonambi replaces Marx at hooker.
21 Sep 2019
58' DROP GOAL SPRINGBOKS!
They had the scrum advantage and with nothing else on Pollard had a dip from 40m out and turned immediately!

A couple of big carries from Vermeulen there! Kolbe again showing great hands to keep it alive for the Boks.
Eventually ends in a knock-on from the Boks.

52' Boks on attack!
Looked like there may have been a forward pass or two in there, but the Boks break and are now just 5m short!
21 Sep 2019
51' Bok skipper Kolisi is replaced by Francois Louw ...
Sonny Bill Williams also on for Crotty.
21 Sep 2019
50' Reece knocks on and now the Boks have a scrum about 60m out.
Has the momentum shifted?
21 Sep 2019
The Boks were on attack and Du Toit, with nothing else on, simply went straight through the middle of the formed ruck and the Boks are back in it!
Pollard knocks over the extras.
SA 10-17 NZ
21 Sep 2019
47' SUPERB FROM KOLBE!
The Bok wing takes a high ball in his own half and then sets off on a ridiculous individual run!
He looked set to score in the right corner in what would have been a magical try, but Mo'unga stops him just short and the ball is lost forward.
Easily the most exciting moment from as Bok point of view ...

21 Sep 2019
44' And after a few reset scrums, the All Blacks get the penalty through a Bok collapse.
Not the start to the half the Boks needed.
ABs set up an attacking lineout ...
21 Sep 2019
41' Almost immediately we have another De Klerk box kick that doesn't go very far at all and gives away possession.
Beauden Barrett, meanwhile, takes a huge knock from Vermeulen that leaves him with a nosebleed.

HALF-TIME! SA 3-17 NZ
Pieter-Steph du Toit knocks on inside the NZ 22m area where he really should have held on.
Boks started brightly, but the wheels came off with a double-strike from the All Blacks.
Pollard's penalty miss at 3-0 hurt, but it can't be blamed.
The Boks haven't kicked accurately enough and they have also been bossed in the air too many times.
If they are going to get back into this game, they will have to make something happen soon.
