Kirchner: It was God's plan

Cape Town - Blue Bulls fullback Zane Kirchner says his call-up to the Springboks' World Cup squad is part of God's plan with his life.

Kirchner will board for New Zealand on Sunday night to replace Frans Steyn - who was ruled out of the tournament after injuring his shoulder in South Africa's 13-5 win over Samoa on Friday.

Kirchner, 27, will join the squad in Wellington on Tuesday morning in preparation for Sunday’s quarter-final at the Wellington Regional Stadium.

The Boks will play the Wallabies in the quarters after the Australians finished second in their Pool (C) on Sunday when Ireland defeated Italy.

Kirchner told the Rapport newspaper his inclusion is a "dream come true" and feels the timing of the incident is part of the plan God has with his life.

"It wasn't His time that I be at the World Cup from the beginning, but only had to go now. I believe God plans everything for you in your life and He knows best. Therefore, I wasn't really disappointed when I failed to make the initial group.

"It's nevertheless now a dream that has come true to go to the World Cup. Uncle Wynie (Strydom, the Blue Bulls' team manager) phoned me this morning (Saturday) at about 8h00 with the wonderful news," said Kirchner.
