2011-09-30 11:19

Cape Town - Samoan fullback Paul Williams has been red-carded for striking Springbok flank Heinrich Brussow in their clash in Auckland on Friday.

Shortly thereafter, replacement Springbok hooker John Smit was yellow-carded for a deliberate knock-on.

Thats it. Tough game - difficult to keep to the rules!

      Durbanpoison - 2011-09-30 11:49

Bloody rusbbish.... Throw him to the wolves.

      Heldkay - 2011-09-30 11:50

Agreed Jacques, sweet and short I wonder where is jk or rather jdk with his losing france side?????

      Majordad.007 - 2011-09-30 11:58

The rules are easy. Define them at the start. Tell loose forwards to remain bound, push not pull in the correct direction and penalise early. That sets the tone.. Then play the game.

      Chief Kok - 2011-09-30 12:20

Didn't the minister ordered them to MOER HULLE. Now they got MOERED. Hahaha!!!

      rockster666 - 2011-09-30 12:26

No red card for SA prop for striking Samoan captain on the face.

      Spioen - 2011-09-30 12:35

Rockster - if you open your eyes during your replay you'll see the prop got slapped first, and then retaliated...

      Dazza - 2011-09-30 12:53

@ Chief Cock - well lets leave it at that!

      rockster666 - 2011-09-30 13:51

@ Spioen what was Brussow doing before he got an open palm on his face then taking a dive

      Sakkie Van de Spuy - 2011-09-30 14:24

@ Chief Kok...loose the chip off your shoulder...apartheid is are as ancient as the feelings you still hold in your heart. Regarding, getting moer'ed...the springboks was there to play rugby, not to fight as the many examples have shown...If it was a boxing match...Il'l put money on the springboks to win that as well... @rockster666...I think you are a blind eyed, trolling, PS3 Rugby playing nerd, that did not watch the game and clearly does not have any clue regarding rugby rules etc. The prop (aka Jannie Du Plessis) was hit first, and he retaliated wiht a loving mafia tap to the face, saying hello back at the Samoan. Brussouw (on his feet, wanting to play the game), was held by the Samaon fullback (lying on the floor, no where near the ball), preventing Brussouw to go and do what he does best...steal Samoan ball. The arm slapping, was Brussouw trying to break free from the hold. In the end, he actuall stopped and asked the lineref for help...but I guess you did not see that either.

      rockster666 - 2011-09-30 15:06

@ Sarkie you must be another person having to watch the game on a black and white tv its time to upgrade keep up with the time.

      RandomDude - 2011-09-30 22:01

No rockster ..sometimes you just gotta slap a b1tch . And the Bru thing was a bait .. snorre and the rest of the team did a high five when that happened . SamOESa was just a bit slow on the uptake

  • BringITon007 - 2011-09-30 11:28

  • marco - 2011-09-30 11:44

The second time the Boks have been tested to the limit now in these Pool matches against Wales and now Samoa.Samoa were good, credit to them for that, but the Boks were better and more so in first half. The red card was justified for poking Brussow in the face and a yellow for Smit evens things out I guess.Samoa created so many try scoring chances, but didn't take them. The Boks' defence held firm and that's where we were better than Samoa on the day.PDV will look at the analysis of this as there are things to work on surely going into the Quarter-Finals.

      Rudolph Raath - 2011-09-30 12:20

to the administrator(s) of sport24, please please please, if you have any sense of patriotism, remove Clark Kent, Maori, Johnny-BB and the other Springbok-Haters' accounts! All the talk from various media sources saying get behind the boks, so come on, do your bit and remove the haters!

      marco - 2011-09-30 13:08

@Rudolph Raath Don't bother to much with this Clark Kent person or what News24 will do about his/her comments. There are people like this even on other News websites. For instance just yesterday on SkyNews Forum reporting on that horrific shark attack in FishHoek most readers commented on the victim's injuries and his lack of common sense which was fair, yet about 7 or 8 others of the 29 comments made were so derogatory towards the City of Cape Town and FishHoek itself, the shark spotters warnings, the no electricity thing which they somehow intimated that it aided in the man's accident etc.I mean seriously what has gone wrong with South Africans like Clark Kent that they have so much built-in ill-will towards their own people and country?Their sheer hatred and bad vibes are everywhere in almost every British Newspaper Forum in my country you look at that has a written in section for the public.

  • macrini - 2011-09-30 11:47

That ref had a shocker. Brussow is an absolute thug, he deserved that. At least Australia has nothing to worry about in the quarters.

      HJS - 2011-09-30 12:12

Can only agree with your comment about the ref. He should be "cited" after the game and suspended from top class rugby. A failed intercept attempt that ends in a knock on warrants a scrum for the opposition not a yellow card for the player who missed the interception. Someone should also point out to that ref that forward passes are in general against the rules of the game. The rest of your remarks does not justify a response.

      macrini - 2011-09-30 12:31

@HJS: and Fouries knockdown? Pietersen's hands in the ruck? Bok's killing the ball? Samoa's winger not held but penalised? the list goes on. Boks are not gonna get very far I'm afraid. Get the welcome home parade ready, Boks are gonna be back early.

      supporter - 2011-09-30 12:36

with a name like that you are the thug boy

      Springbokkie - 2011-09-30 12:54

Hey Macrini and Clarky I bet you people are the part of the idiots who live in South Africa but support teams like Australia amnd New Zealand....Do us all a favour go live in the country where you loyality is GO BOKKE!!!

      macrini - 2011-09-30 23:12

No 100% Kiwi. If I was South African I'd support the Boks. @supporter, I have no idea what your talking about but I'm gonna assume it's racist. Kia kaha nga toa o te KAPA O PANGO!!!!!

  • Sparky - 2011-09-30 11:49

Shocking call ref!!!!! 1. John Smit almost got the ball. 2. We where on the half way line. 3. We had tons of defenders behind. No try would have been scored. Give a penalty no way a yellow card.

      macrini - 2011-09-30 11:53

      And Fourie's knockdown?

      Felix - 2011-09-30 12:06

Went backwards troll macrini, unlike the numerous forward passes and neck tackles that that incompetent & bias ref missed.

      HennieduPles - 2011-09-30 12:46

Wrong ! Not even a penalty. His palm was pointing upward ! Rule says you have to knock it down, towards the ground. Shocking Mr. Referee !

  • milswanka - 2011-09-30 11:50

  • roi.boss1 - 2011-09-30 11:51

well they lost those guys end of story

  • BigRed - 2011-09-30 11:56

Wales beat Samoa by 7 points Bokke beat Samoa by 8 points Bokke beat Wales by 1 point. Both teams dispatched Nambia 80 plus Puts everything into perspective.

      BigRed - 2011-09-30 11:59

Wales and South Africa are the first two teams to reach the quarters.:-) Thanks for holding out there Saffa guys. See you in the final.:-D

      Shakes - 2011-09-30 12:32

Lol, you really want that rematch! Maybe you'll get it! Go Wales, put up 40 against Fiji

      Anon - 2011-09-30 14:41

      Lol, interesting stat...

  • Shakes - 2011-09-30 11:59

Scrappy game, too many missed tackles, SA did great in first 30 min but too many kicks out of hand when forwards we driving up, lineouts and scrums beautiful in first half. The fresh legs proved their worth but still think the bench strategy of past weeks worked for us, would have exploded the second half. Lots to work on but we are through! GO BOKKE you can do it! Now for the Wallabies, ooooh can't wait!

  • Bill - 2011-09-30 12:02

Unpunished high tackles, players taken out off the ball, late tackles, punches, jersey tugging, sealing off the ball without the ref taking any notice - Yep a pretty standard Samoan game.

  • Craig Murray - 2011-09-30 12:18

It was not a deliberate knock-on, the ref thought it was!! The ref should have been red-carded for his poor descision making!!

  • Kevin - 2011-09-30 12:42

Very disppointing spectators game....too much off the ball stuff.Samoa had full intentions at thuggery whilst the ref and his sidekicks had an absolute blinder(literally missed all of it).

  • blackfan - 2011-09-30 12:43

You guys are really having a troublesome World Cup. After every game you must start explaining an making excuses for the the poor performances of the Boks. You are becoming a joke!. Your team are old, unfit and useless. Have you watched Matfield , Spies and Frans, being exposed. The Aussies will have a field day with this team.

      Koos - 2011-09-30 12:51

ya... like the ozzies did with the Irish...... mmmm I meant... like the IRISH did with the sheeps!!whaa ha ha ha ha ha ha ha

      Shakes - 2011-09-30 12:54

Its still our team win or lose and our country. You on the other hand are a leech on New Zealand fans glory and have no pride. It must suck to live in a country you hate so much. Everyday you wake up and you are reminded that your miserable life is stuck here in SA cause you probably couldn't get into NZ. I pity you.

      JustRugby - 2011-09-30 13:05

i tend to fall in the trap of reading these comments. i cannot believe that we have people in this country with such little knowledge of rugby. it seems most of you have not played this game of passion. It does not matter how disciplined you are going into games like these, the stuff that was thrown at the boks off the ball was not rugby and should never be allowed on a field of rugby. it was a disgrace to see this happen during a RWC. how do you draw new players if this is what they see? it is a better fit for cage fighting than a game played by decent people. no wonder player numbers in NZ and Oz are dwindling. the islanders see this as the only oppurtunity to make a living and a living by all means. the boks werent great, but the samoans were disgracefull. the Ozzies will play the game and they will let the Boks play the 'GAME'. The Kiwis will do the same and we will see a true game of rugga. not this stupid affiar we just witnessed. Lets move on, no need to loose sleep about this spectical they sold as a rugby game.

  • Johann - 2011-09-30 13:14

Red card deserved, yellow card a farce.

      rockster666 - 2011-09-30 13:30

      AjAxxxx - 2011-09-30 14:01

      RandomDude - 2011-09-30 22:10

Yes Rockster he did .. hehe .. none told the moron to hit him right in front of the touch after his team was already on an official warning.. stupid is as stupid does . I watched snorre and them high-5 after that happened .. hook-line-and-sinker. Dude must have thought he was playing with the 'special' Ab rules where yo get 3 final final warnings ..

  • WIllie Botha - 2011-09-30 13:15

Bok Supporters - what are we wasting our time with these useless fools?! We won and we're in the Quarters! I can't wait to get the Aussies in the Quarters, THEN we'll have a very nice peaceful discussion on here... GO BOKKE!! Vat hulle manne!

    Samoan player called Paul Williams???

      Koos - 2011-09-30 13:53

Ja storm.... the photo shows that something there clearly went wrong... he he he he

      Maori - 2011-09-30 14:14

Yes, his dad, the legend Brian Williams, was not allowed to play in SA because of..... the colour of his skin! Racist idiots, still alive and well!

      Koos - 2011-09-30 14:22

Maori... dude.... like we say to all..... we were not part of it...... please do get over it... it was over 40 years ago..... We are all adults here...... bringing up the past all the time is no solution at all. done and buried... lets move one!

      WIllie Botha - 2011-09-30 15:26

@ Maori It was actually Bryan Williams, and he did play in South Africa where he scored 14 tries of his 13 appearances. BUT he was only allowed to play because he received "honorary white" status. Still not right, but please get your facts straight before you come on a forum like this... GO BOKKE!

      WIllie Botha - 2011-09-30 15:29

      @ Maori what a chop!

      Maori - 2011-09-30 15:49

@Willie - I might be a chop, but you cannot deny the facts!!! saffa mentality - "honourary white status" WOW, I long for the good old days!!!

  • RugbyBoychie - 2011-09-30 13:28

@littleJOHNNY-BB, you must be the biggest chop that is still breast feeding from his mommy. We know you trying to rev us by calling us protea's, that trick is over now. Please leave the big boys to talk rugby here and carry on knitting a willy warmer for mama. Come chap...we asking you nicely
