Cape Town - A New Zealand man has heralded the birth of a bull as a sign that the All Blacks are going to win the Rugby World Cup this year and intends to use the animal to help predict the team’s results.
Kyle Underwood is the proud owner of Richie McCow, a bull that is completely black expect for a small white stripe (shaped similarly to the silver fern emblem on the All Black jersey) above his left eye.
Underwood believes that the bull’s colouring is a sign that the All Blacks will take the trophy and he intends to use McCow to predict the team’s results at the World Cup - in the same way that Paul the Octopus was used to predict Germany's match results during last year’s soccer World Cup.
On Friday the bull was allowed to choose between a bottle of milk wrapped in an Australian flag and another wrapped in New Zealand's flag.
McCow chose the New Zealand bottle and according to the New Zealand Herald’s website, Underwood has interpreted this as the bull's prediction for Saturday’s Tri-Nations game between the two countries.
"As you can see, we got a result ... and he picked the All Blacks so hopefully they win,” said Underwood.
"I'll definitely be on the edge of my seat the whole game, that's for sure."
McCow was born on a farm in the small town of Maungaturoto on July 13, and was named after All Black captain Riche McCaw.
The bull has become somewhat of a celebrity since his birth, appearing in newspapers as far afield as India, Pakistan, Malaysia, France, Jamaica and Taiwan, and has over 600 likes on the facebook page created for him by his owners.
Paul the Octopus achieved worldwide fame in 2010 after correctly predicting the results of all of Germany’s games and the final at the Fifa World Cup.
