Cape Town - With the RWC in full swing, there have not been a lot of unexpected results to date, barring Australia's defeat to Ireland.
The Wallabies, who were expected to beat Ireland, fell hopelessly short, although it was not entirely a surprise that the Irish walked away triumphant.
As a result, permutations are abounding, as the minnows prepare to have their last say in the tournament before exiting.
The potential quarter-final between defending champions, the Springboks, and the Wallabies, who slipped down to third in the world rankings following their defeat, has everyone's attention, including Eddie Jones', who has played a coaching role for both teams at prior World Cup's.
“If South Africa face Australia in the quarters, they need a really tactical approach, they need to practice it, and then stick to it. Australia have played some exceptional rugby under (Robbie) Deans, but they've played the same way every game.
"When you play against them, you have to know what you're going to do and how you're going to do it,” Jones wrote on rugby blog website, RugbyXV.
Jones went onto highlight that the Achilles heel of the Wallabies has emerged once more, with their scrum coming under tremendous pressure and buckling against the Irish, an aspect of the game the Boks are all too familiar with when exposing their Tri-Nations rivals.
“If the Boks want to attack the Australian scrum that causes a whole new issue. If they want to go that route, they'll have to pick their strongest scrummaging front row, and that includes starting Bismarck du Plessis. Jannie du Plessis and Beast Mtawarira should start either side of him if they want to go that route.”
Jones went on to criticise Springbok coach Peter de Villiers for his handling of Bismarck du Plessis.
“By not starting Bismarck against Namibia on Thursday, they've essentially wasted an opportunity to improve the side before the Samoa game and the quarter-final. You look at games like this from the point of view of how you could develop your team.
"It is unlikely Chiliboy Ralepelle is going to play in the big games, so it's a waste to put him on the bench. You should pick the core of your team, and think of ways of developing the team.
"There are no points for keeping the entire team happy.”
