Habana 'his own worst enemy'

Auckland - Springbok wing ace Bryan Habana is his own worst enemy, according to his coach Peter de Villiers, by trying to please everybody.

Habana has increasingly come under criticism for a perceived drop in form, despite becoming the holder of the record for the most tries by a Springbok, when he broke Joost van der Westhuizen's long-standing record against Namibia.

The former IRB Player of the Year is one of international rugby's most popular players, and therein lies the problem, says de Villiers.

"Bryan is his own enemy. He tries so hard. He wants to satisfy everybody and I think he tweets too much," he said.

"People tweet back and that bothers him a lot. So he wants to please everybody out there and the one guy he misses is the guy in the middle."

"I said to him 'if you can't satisfy you, you'll never satisfy me and if you don't satisfy me you'll lose your spot in the game.'"

Habana extended his try scoring record to 40 in the Springboks final pool match against Samoa before coming off injured.

The Bok management have released a statement confirming the winger's injury, but had not ruled him out of the Springboks quarterfinal clash.
