Auckland - Sometimes it helps to know your team is hurting as much as you are at home.
Wallabies captain James Horwill was composed in front of the media following last night's semi-final loss to New Zealand, but he and his team-mates were candid on Twitter.
"Feel truly gutted. Hard to find words to describe the feeling. The AB's were too good and deserved to win. Good luck to the AB's next week," Horwill said two hours after the game.
"I want to thank everyone for the continued support. It has been absolutely amazing. Thank you!!"
"Gutted" came through a lot last night from the Australian dressing room.
Young gun James O'Connor struggled to find the words but was passionate about the support back home.
"Speechless, cld be worst feeling ever. absolutely gutted! Ab's jst too gd tonight-played gr8 rugby n deserved the win," he tweeted.
"Aus uve be f**kn awesome this past month- we very much appreciate all the support u have shown, devastated we cldnt do it for you guys 2nite."
Under-fire flyhalf Quade Cooper was more cryptic, choosing not to address the game itself.
"Firstly to all those that have stood proud and are still standing proud thank you all! It has been a tough 6weeks and about to get tougher," he tweeted 2½ hours after the final whistle.
"They say everything happens for a reason. So we are ready for everything you can possibly throw at us now. You can't make us feel any worse."
Cooper's coach at the Reds, Ewen McKenzie, replied to his backline star.
"@QuadeCooper dont worry about the court of public opinion - you never make everyone happy - play for each other - great opportunity."
Fullback Adam Ashley-Cooper was the first player to Tweet after the game.
"Losing is never a nice feeling. NZ deserved that win tonight, congrats, we were simply out played!! Good luck to the allblacks next week," he said.
"Aussie, sorry we couldn't take you one step further. Your support this entire campaign has been amazing, thank you! I am a proud Australian."
Hooker Stephen Moore said he was "gutted" but hoped the All Blacks beat France in the final.
Flank David Pocock apologised to Australian fans.
"Thanks for all the support during #RWC2011 It has been amazing. Sorry we couldn't get the win tonight. Credit to the AB's. They were 2 good."
A dream turned into a nightmare for the Fainga'a brothers, Anthony and Saia.
"What a night it is going to be, we have dreamed about these moments our whole life and now it is coming true!! Thanks for all your support;)" they Tweeted two hours before kick-off.
"Worst feeling ever, absolutely gutted!" they sent out after the final whistle.
"Ab's just too good tonight .. Thanks to everyone tonight for the great supports, u were awesome."
New Zealand media relished the headline-writing opportunity the Wallabies' defeat delivered them.
"FINAL-LY!" screamed the New Zealand Herald's front page on Monday.
"The choke's on them."
