Bismarck: We won't hold back

Cape Town – In today’s edition of the Cape Times newspaper, Mike Greenaway writes that Springbok hooker, Bismarck du Plessis says the Boks have devised new strategies, which could not be revealed during the recent Tri Nations series.

Greenaway suggests that Wales coach, Warren Gatland views the Springboks as the easiest opponent to prepare for in world rugby due to their predictable playing pattern which they adopt from time to time.

However, Du Plessis begs to differ and says that they are “champing at the bit” after weeks of preparation and public events and aim to offer something new in this year’s tournament.

“We want to make a statement in our opening match. It is important that we show we mean business at this World Cup,” Du Plessis told the Cape Times.

Although the Boks have sometimes been accused of being too predictable, the hooker suggests that they have been working on a few variations in their strategy.

“The overall strategy will be the same, but there are a few things we have been working on for ages in training, but did not want to reveal in the Tri Nations, so we are looking forward to at last putting it all into action,” Du Plessis added.

Du Plessis went on to say that they aim to win every match and they will not be holding any punches in doing so.

He also expressed that he has come to terms with remaining captain, John Smit’s understudy, as Du Plessis is expected to be utilised as an impact player at the tournament.

“I just want to play rugby as much as I can, but at the same time be a team player,” he confessed.
