Weather forces Boks to change plan

Port Elizabeth - A forecast of inclement weather for Tuesday in Port Elizabeth has prompted a late change of plans for the Springboks in their build-up to Saturday’s return Rugby Championship Test against the Pumas.

Coach Allister Coetzee had confirmed over the weekend that the Boks would spend both Monday and Tuesday training in Port Elizabeth before departing to Johannesburg on Tuesday night ahead of Wednesday’s day flight to Argentina.

However, with high winds and a 61 percent chance of rain predicted for Tuesday, the departure from the Eastern Cape city has been brought forward to Monday night.

“There is bad weather predicted for here tomorrow (Tuesday) so we have decided it is best to relocate to Johannesburg for the final part of our preparation before we depart,” confirmed team manager Ian Schwartz.

“The idea is that we want to get in a full two days of training in South Africa before we leave. If the weather is bad we might not be able to get through all that we want to get through. If we train in Johannesburg on Tuesday we should be able to get in a full day, and that is important to us.”

The conditions for training in Port Elizabeth on Monday, with hardly any wind and it feeling quite humid, so there shouldn't be any disruption to the Bok training for the remainder of their stay. It is only overnight that the forecast bad weather is expected to come in.
