Todd suffers injury setback

Cape Town - Canterbury openside flank Matt Todd will be sidelined for at least a month after fracturing his hand in a Mitre 10 Cup clash at the weekend.

The All Black sustained the injury in Canterbury's 30-24 Ranfurly Shield defence against Otago on Sunday.

Todd, who was unlucky to miss out on selection for New Zealand's Rugby Championship squad, played the full 80 minutes for Canterbury, but saw a specialist on Monday and scans confirmed his injury.

He will spend the next four weeks in a splint and will then be reviewed by the specialist before being cleared to play.

The injury is an unfortunate blow for the 29-year-old as it rules him out as possible replacement should Sam Cane be sidelined following the concussion he sustained against the Wallabies in Dunedin on Saturday.
