Durban - South African singer Elvis Blue's calls to sing the South African national anthem were answered at Kings Park on Saturday.

Blue took to Twitter back in June in a plea to the Springboks to let him perform the anthem at one of their matches.

"It will be the greatest honour for me," he tweeted at the time.

His request gained some traction on social media, and it clearly found its way to the Boks because on Saturday, Blue was tasked with performing Nkosi Sikelel' iAfrika in front of just over 26 000 spectators in Durban.

After the match, Blue took to Twitter again to thank the Boks and those who had helped him realis on of his childhood dreams.

"Singing the anthem yesterday was the closest I'll ever get to representing my country," he wrote.

"Thanks for the retweets friends. You made it happen."
