Mitchell to be unleashed on Boks?

Cape Town - Veteran Wallaby wing Drew Mitchell must pass a fitness test in order to be picked for Saturday’s Rugby Championship Test against the Springboks in Brisbane.

The 70-cap veteran has not played for five months because of persistent groin problems but could face the Boks if he can get through Tuesday’s full-contact session at Ballymore unscathed.

"I think we may have turned the corner, things are going alright," Mitchell was quoted as saying by the Sydney Morning Herald.

"It's been a bit of an ongoing process. It was a little bit more complicated than we thought so I've just been rehabbing that. Today's session is pretty crucial so hopefully I'll get through."

Along with scrumhalf Will Genia, Mitchell is one of just two European-based players left in the Australian camp following the ankle injury to Matt Giteau and Adam Ashley-Cooper's return to French club Bordeaux.

Kick-off for Saturday’s Test at Suncorp Stadium is scheduled for 12:05 (SA time).
