Meakes eagerly awaits Wallabies call

Cape Town - Western Force centre Bill Meakes is eager to make his international debut for the Wallabies.

After a stellar debut season with the Force, the 26-year-old has knocked on the door of Wallabies selection.

However, the in-form Kurtley Beale has kept him out of the side.

“I suppose it’s in all of our nature that you don’t come here to be outside the 23,” Meakes told the Rugby.com.au website.

“I’m really happy with my progress and I’ve got some good feedback from the coaches that I’m not far off.

“The reality is there are a lot of good players in the squad at the moment and the guys in my position are playing really well.

“Whenever it comes, if it comes, I will be ready and I’m loving being here at the moment."

All Meakes can do is train the house down - which he has done in Johannesburg all week where the Wallabies have based themselves ahead of Saturday's Test against the Springboks in Bloemfontein.

Wallabies coach Michael Cheika will name his line-up on Thursday.
