Thanks for tuning in!

In next weekend's action, the Springboks take on the All Blacks in Wellington, while the Wallabies host Argentina on the Gold Coast.

08 Sep 13:59

No doubt a massive turning point in this game was the gift of a try the Boks allowed Matt Toomua to score in the first half.

Bongi Mbonambi's long lineout throw couldn't find any of his team-mates, but the Bok hooker shouldn't take all the blame. Pieter-Steph Du Toit and Siya Kolisi were there at the back and should have made sure they got to the ball first.

08 Sep 13:54
Defensive errors, handling errors, poor decision making... this just about sums up the Springboks...
08 Sep 13:54
Another error-ridden Springbok performance. They simply make too many basic errors for this level of rugby!
08 Sep 13:53
FULL-TIME: Australia 23-18 South Africa
08 Sep 13:52
82'- De Klerk throws the ball into the hands of an Australian player. Genia then promptly boots it out to end the game...
08 Sep 13:50
80'- It's the perfect launchpad for South Africa to sneak a victory...
08 Sep 13:49

80'- The Wallabies are caught off-side in front of their own posts.

The Boks opt for another scrum as the final hooter sounds...

08 Sep 13:48
78' - But the Boks launch another attack off the subsequent scrum...
08 Sep 13:48

77'- NO TRY!

The TMO determines there was a double knock-on earlier in the move, firstly from an Australian, then from Marx.

Francois Louw thought he was over for a try there...

08 Sep 13:46

After 12 phases of attack, the Springboks are seemingly over for a try.

The referee asks the TMO if there's any reason he cannot award the try...

08 Sep 13:43
76'- It has been a poor second half from the Springboks, but they have the chance to sneak a victory at the death here...
08 Sep 13:42
76'- A scrum penalty for the Boks allows Pollard to set up a lineout inside the Australian 22m area...
08 Sep 13:40
75' - An intercept from De Klerk brings some reprieve for the Boks but another knock on halts their charge. This time Franco Mostert is the culprit...
08 Sep 13:38

72'- Another knock on from Wille le Roux in midfield. It came after the Boks attempted to run from deep.

I'll say it again, Le Roux's skills have been poor today!

08 Sep 13:37

Australia 8

South Africa 9

08 Sep 13:35

69' - RG Snyman is just on for the Boks and he starts a fight. No need for that mentality!

The Wallabies, meanwhile, also win a penalty after one of their players was taken out in the air by Snyman...

08 Sep 13:33

68' - PENALTY slotted by Toomua.

Australia 23-18 South Africa

08 Sep 13:32
67'- A scrum penalty for the Wallabies as Mtawarira is pinged for going down. This could be a crucial point in the outcome of the match...
08 Sep 13:31
My word, the skills level of these players is not something to write home about. On both sides!
08 Sep 13:30

65'- Pollard's clearance kick is a poor one, handing the Wallabies another attacking lineout.

But yet again they are pinged for a skew throw!

08 Sep 13:29
64'- Some reprieve for the Boks as the Wallabies are caught out for throwing skew into the lineout...
08 Sep 13:28
64'- Bok sub: Pollard on at flyhalf for Jantjies.
08 Sep 13:28

64' - Great hands from the Wallabies out wide sees them enter the red zone, before winning a penalty.

It's close to the touchline so they opt for an attacking lineout...

08 Sep 13:25
62'- Bok sub: Francois Louw on for Whiteley.
08 Sep 13:25
61'- After 7 phases off Bok attack on the tryline, Jantjies decides to put a chip through, only to see the ball go over the dead-ball line...
08 Sep 13:24
60'- A great kick by De Klerk puts the Wallabies under massive pressure at the back. Hooper is forced to take it out, handing the Boks a lineout close to the tryline...
08 Sep 13:21
57'- Bok subs: Mtawarira on for Kitshoff, Louw on for Malherbe.
08 Sep 13:19
56'- Oh dear, a knock on from Kitshoff scuppers a great attacking opportunity for the Springboks, who were attacking inside the red zone.
08 Sep 13:18

Australia 190m

South Africa 161m

08 Sep 13:16

54' - PENALTY slotted by Toomua.

Australia 20-18 South Africa

08 Sep 13:15
53'- The Wallabies win another kickable penalty and this time Toomua will line up a shot at goal. Kitshoff the man pinged for going off his feet at the breakdown...
08 Sep 13:14
51'- But the Wallabies remain on the attack, with the Springbok exit strategy not overly impressive...
08 Sep 13:13
50'- Brilliant defence from the Boks keeps the hosts at bay.
08 Sep 13:11
49'- Faf de Klerk again penalised for going off-side at the scrum. The Wallabies however opt against taking the three points. They opt for a scrum instead...
08 Sep 13:10
47' - Wallaby prop Allan Alaalatoa is off, repalced by Taniela Tupou.
08 Sep 13:09
46'- Wallaby wing Jack Maddocks oh-so-close but he is held up. It will be a five-metre scrum for the hosts...
08 Sep 13:08
46'- However, another attacking chance for the Wallabies as the Boks fail to control the ball at lineout time...
08 Sep 13:07
45'- Another scrum penalty for South Africa. They have been dominant in that department today!
08 Sep 13:06
44'- A let-off for the Springboks as Simmons knocks it on close to the tryline...
08 Sep 13:05
42' - Genia brilliant breaks off a scrum inside his own half... he chips ahead and almost scores but luckily for South Africa, Wille le Roux comes to the rescue on defence. It's still a five metre scrum for the hosts though...
  • 83'

FULL-TIME: AUSTRALIA 23-18 SOUTH AFRICA. South Africa win their scrum and de Klerk goes on his own. The Wallabies defence holds firm. They win the ball shortly afterwards and Genia kicks the ball out! The Boks feel there was interference, but Glen Jackson doesn't think so. This is so cruel on South Africa, but they failed to add to their first half total and made crucial errors. As a result, the Wallabies claim their first win of the tournament.

  • 80'

Australia give away the penalty for offside. The Springboks opt to go for the scrum. This may be their final opportunity.

  • 78'

The pressure continues to build on the Wallabies and South Africa think they've got the ball down for a potentially decisive try! Jackson is going upstairs to see if there's any reason he can't award it. He thinks there might have been a knock-on.

  • 78'

TRY DISALLOWED! 23-18. The decision is that there was a double knock-on in the build-up -- first from Australia and then the Springboks. It's a South African scrum only.

  • 76'

The Springboks earn themselves a penalty and Pollard kicks the ball into touch deep in Aussie territory. The Wallabies nearly managed to keep that in, but not quite.

  • 73'

Another unforced error from the Springboks as Willie le Roux spills a pass forward. At times today, South Africa have been architects of their own downfall.

  • 70'

There's a bust-up between the sides after Snyman tackles Hooper in the air. Hooper wants a yellow card, but Jackson's decision is that it's only a penalty.

  • 69'

PENALTY, AUSTRALIA, TOOMUA! 23-18: Toomua makes no mistake, stretching the Wallabies lead. The Springboks will have to respond to this quickly -- the clock is ticking!

  • 68'

Penalty, Wallabies, front row collapsing at the scrum. Mtawarira is the guilty party, it seems. The Wallabies look as if they're set to go for poles.

  • 65'

De Klerk is penalised for a high tackle and Australia set up the attacking lineout, but the throw from Fainga'a isn't straight.

  • 62'

Marx throws to Snyman at the lineout and South Africa pile on the pressure. Jantjies puts ball to boot, looking to send Kolbe through in the corner, but it just goes beyond the substitute!

  • 61'

De Klerk kicks in behind the Wallabies defence and Dyantyi chases on South Africa's left. Hooper gets there first and slides into touch.

  • 59'

Rory Arnold heads off for a head injury assessment. Rodda comes back on in his place for the Wallabies.

  • 55'

PENALTY, AUSTRALIA, TOOMUA! 20-18: Toomua steps up to the kicking tee and puts the Wallabies in front!

  • 54'

There we go. Kitshoff is penalised for hands in the ruck. Surely the Wallabies will go for posts this time.

  • 53'

The Wallabies continue to pile on the pressure and they have a penalty advantage.

  • 50'

Koroibete throws a pass into touch, but the Wallabies have the penalty. They go for another scrum instead of the three. Interesting call.

  • 48'

The Springboks hold firm for the moment, with Malherbe putting in a fantastic tackle to deny the Wallabies. Australia have a five-metre scrum.

  • 47'

The Wallabies are very much on the attack at the moment, just short of the Springbok try-line. This is a huge test for the visiting defence.

  • 43'

PENALTY, AUSTRALIA, HODGE! 17-18: Hodge steps up to the kicking tee and closes off the half with a great strike! The flags go up and it's a one-point ball game!

  • 43'

HALF-TIME: AUSTRALIA 17-18 SOUTH AFRICA. The Springboks go into the break with a well-deserved, but narrow lead. Since the Wallabies scored early on in the game, the visitors have been in control but for one calamitous lineout overthrow, which has kept Australia very much in this.

  • 42'

Kitshoff is unable to roll away following the tackle and Australia have the chance to add three points of their own now from a long-range kick.

  • 42'

Rodda heads off to receive medical attention and is replaced by Rob Simmons, who came onto the bench at the last minute for the Wallabies.

  • 41'

Jantjies gets the second half underway for South Africa. Their hosts will be looking to start this one off as they did the last.

  • 39'

It's South Africa who win the penalty! Front row driving up is the offence. The Springboks will take the three points.

  • 39'

PENALTY, SOUTH AFRICA, JANTJIES! 14-18: Jantjies makes no mistake from the tee.

  • 38'

South Africa build pressure on the Wallabies again, but then de Klerk loses the ball forward and gives Australia the chance to win their scrum and get the ball clear.

  • 35'

Marx is on in place of Mbonambi, perhaps in response to South Africa's lineout problems.

  • 34'

CONVERSION, AUSTRALIA, TOOMUA! 14-15: Toomua adds the extras to his own try, which was handed to him on a plate by that lineout blunder.

  • 33'

TRY, AUSTRALIA, TOOMUA! 12-15: Calamitous overthrow from the Springboks and they're made to pay! Toomua goes in under the posts!

  • 32'

Fantastic defence from the Springboks! Australia work the ball out left, but Mapimpi and Kriel combine to push Maddocks into touch!

  • 30'

This time, Jantjies' conversion attempt goes wide to the right. However, the Springboks still lead by more than a converted try.

  • 28'

TRY, SOUTH AFRICA, MAPIMPI! 7-15: The pressure builds on the Wallabies before de Klerk floats a pass to Mapimpi out wide and he finishes on the right!

  • 26'

De Klerk looks to kick in behind the Australian defence. It goes into touch deep inside the Wallabies' 22. Arnold fumbles the ball under pressure from Etzebeth at the lineout and South Africa earn themselves a five-metre scrum. The two sides are sternly warned against pre-engaging by Glen Jackson.

  • 23'

Toomua's kick bounces off the post! Unlucky for the Wallabies. The Springboks still lead 7-10.

  • 22'

Australia have won a penalty for offside against de Klerk. They look as if they're set to go for posts.

  • 19'

Beale spots some space in behind the Springbok defence and puts the ball into touch. South Africa take the throw quickly and look to hit back, but Dyantyi can't quite get away.

  • 16'

CONVERSION, SOUTH AFRICA, JANTJIES! 7-10: Jantjies extends the Springboks' lead with a good kick from the left.

  • 15'

TRY, SOUTH AFRICA, MBONAMBI! 7-8: After a sustained spell of pressure, the Springbok maul takes them over and it's the hooker who gets the ball down!

  • 11'

South Africa win the penalty at the turnover and go on the attack again. A cross-kick from Jantjies is intercepted by Haylett-Petty, but play is brought back and the Springboks will restart with a lineout.

  • 9'

South Africa look to build up some momentum now, but Whiteley is penalised for leaving his feet and Australia have the chance to go on the front foot themselves.

  • 7'

PENALTY, SOUTH AFRICA, JANTJIES! 7-3: Great kick from Jantjies. The Springboks are on the board.

  • 6'

With coach Michael Cheika under pressure following two losses against the All Blacks, Australia have got this game off to the perfect start. However, the Wallabies are now penalised for collapsing the scrum on their own put-in.

  • 3'

CONVERSION, AUSTRALIA, TOOMUA! 7-0: Toomua adds the extras for the Wallabies.

  • 2'

TRY, AUSTRALIA, HOOPER! 5-0: The Wallabies go on the front foot early on. After making up ground through the wide channels, they work the ball through the phases. Hooper eventually powers his way over!

  • 1'

The national anthems have been sung and Toomua gets the game underway for the Wallabies! There have been some more late changes to their team: Israel Folau and Adam Coleman have pulled out -- the former due to an ankle injury and the latter due to family reasons. Jack Maddocks and Izack Rodda are thereofre the starting lineup.
