Cape Town - Former captain John Smit had the honour of handing out the Springboks’ jerseys ahead of Saturday’s Rugby Championship Test against the All Blacks in Christchurch.
Smit, who captained the Springboks to the World Cup title in France in 2007, is in Christchurch this week to cheer on his former team.
He recently announced his resignation as Sharks CEO and will be replaced by former and Sharks and Springbok skipper Gary Teichmann at the beginning of November.
The Springboks will take heart from Smit’s presence, as he was the Bok skipper the last time they beat the All Blacks in New Zealand - in 2009 when South Africa won 32-29 in Hamilton.
Saturday's Test is scheduled for 09:35 (SA time).
