Introducing Springboks #912-914

Cape Town - The long list of players to have represented the Springboks will be added to in Saturday's Rugby Championship clash against Australia at Ellis Park.

The total number of players to have donned the famed green and gold jersey dating back some 128 years to July 30, 1891 currently totals 911.

Cheslin Kolbe was the last player to make his Springbok debut - against the Wallabies co-incidentally in September 2018.

At least two more players are guaranteed to make their debuts having been selected in the run-on team on Saturday - flank Rynhardt Elstadt and scrumhalf Herschel Jantjies - while a third, prop Lizo Gqoboka, will also be capped for the first time should he be called off the bench.

Purely decided by alphabetical order, Elstadt, currently playing for Toulouse in France, would become Springbok #912, while Stormers No 9 Jantjies will be #913.

Gqoboka, who enjoyed a stand-out Super Rugby season with the Bulls, will be #914 should coach Rassie Erasmus call on his services.

For purely trivia purposes, Springbok #1 is fullback Ben Duff who played a total of three Tests for South Africa, all against Great Britain in South Africa in 1891.

Recently deceased Rugby World Cup 1995-winning wing James Small was #561.
