Habana set to etch his name in Bok folklore

Cape Town - Springbok wing Bryan Habana will be out to further etch his name in Springbok folklore when he takes to the field against Australia at Loftus Versfeld on Saturday.

Kick-off is at 17:05.

Habana will increase his lead as the most capped Springbok in Tri-Nations / Rugby Championship history with 52 appearances.

Next best?

Jean de Villiers with 50.

It will also be Habana's 121st Test as a wing in the Green and Gold, which is a world record.

Habana, the oldest player in Saturday's squad at 33 years, three months and 19 days, is the all-time leading Bok try-scorer against the Wallabies with nine tries, as well as the all-time leading Bok try-scorer at Loftus with eight.

Habana, currently plying his trade for Franch Top 14 side Toulon, will have fond memories of Loftus, having played 61 times for the Bulls in Super Rugby.

Habana will be looking to add to his total Test try tally of 66 - which is a record for a tier 1 player.

A repeat of his hat-trick almost four years ago to the day in the Boks' 31-8 win against Australia at Loftus will go a long way to easing the pressure on coach Allister Coetzee and pleasing the fanatical local supporters.

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
