Cape Town - The time is right for Rohan Janse van Rensburg to be included in the Springbok set-up, Lions backline coach Swys de Bruin believes.
The 22-year-old was a standout player for the Lions in Super Rugby, with several pundits calling for his inclusion in the national team.
“Ruan is a player with X-factor and that is exactly what I believe the Springboks need right now,” De Bruin told Netwerk24.
According to De Bruin, Janse van Rensburg needs to improve a few aspects on his game.
“But I definitely don’t think it would be a mistake to include him in the Bok squad. He is a player who can play on any level and here at the Golden Lions we’ve known for quite a while that it’s just a matter of time before he wears the Green and Gold.
“He is very strong and uses his strength to get through gaps. He has something that you can’t teach (X-factor) and is a player who can create something out of nothing.
“When he has the ball you know that something is going to happen. He is very exciting on attack and boasts a presence on the field. Furthermore, he is also a team man.”
Given the Boks’ struggles in midfield, coach Allister Coetzee may opt to call up Janse van Rensburg.
Damian de Allende was below par in at the start of the Test season, while his replacement - Juan de Jongh - is also yet to convince.
The Boks’ next Rugby Championship Test is against Australia in Pretoria on October 1.
