Cape Town - He was not named in the original 35-man squad, but tighthead prop Coenie Oosthuizen could still feature in this year's Rugby Championship for the Springboks.
That was the news from Bok coach Rassie Erasmus on Monday as his side prepares for Saturday's tournament opener against Argentina in Durban.
The 29-year-old Oosthuizen missed the whole of the 2018 Super Rugby season with the Sharks after he injured his knee on Bok duty against Ireland in November, last year.
The incident happened in the first minute of that dreadful Springbok Test - the Boks would go on to lose 38-3 - as it was later confirmed that Oosthuizen had torn both his ACL and MCL.
While he did not go into detail, Erasmus said on Monday that "Coenie will be available a bit later" when talking about his selection headaches for the tournament.
It is good news for the Boks as preparations for the 2019 World Cup continue.
The other tighthead options in the current squad come in the form of Wilco Louw, Frans Malherbe and Thomas du Toit.
Erasmus will name his side for Saturday's clash on Thursday.
