Boks still sweating on Whiteley

Cape Town - The Springboks are still sweating on the availability of No 8 Warren Whiteley ahead of Saturday's All Blacks clash at Loftus Versfeld.

The Lions skipper missed last weekend's win over the Wallabies in Port Elizabeth with a groin strain, and the word coming out of the Bok camp on Monday was that a decision on Whiteley was likely to be taken on Tuesday.

Sikhumbuzo Notshe filled in for Whiteley in Port Elizabeth and put in a solid shift, but coach Rassie Erasmus has also recalled Francois Louw to the squad.

Louw would provide another option for the Boks at the back of the scrum, with his breakdown expertise a weapon against the All Blacks.

Centre Damian de Allende, meanwhile, is expected to be available for selection after recovering from a shoulder injury.

Erasmus will name his side for Saturday's clash on Thursday.

No! I think the smart thing to do is start again with a younger skipper ...

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
