Bok prop explains emotions during famous All Black win

Cape Town - Springbok prop Coenie Oosthuizen has spent the last 10 months recovering from a knee injury that threatened to ruin his career.

He is now back to full fitness and made his first professional appearance since November last year when he came off the bench in the Sharks' Currie Cup win against the Golden Lions on Saturday.

It has been a long road back, though, and Oosthuizen spoke this week about the frustrations that come with being on the sidelines for that long.

One thing that didn't change, however was Oosthuizen's love for the Springboks.

He was on Bok duty when that horror injury struck in the 3rd minute against Ireland in Dublin on the 2017 end of year tour, and even though he hasn't been part of the national set-up under Rassie Erasmus, Oosthuizen has been keeping a close eye on things.

Like the rest of South Africa, Oosthuizen was watching as a fan when the Boks stunned New Zealand in Wellington two weekends ago.

"For a rugby player and a supporter it was basically the same thing ... you just want to shout at the TV as much as possible," Oosthuizen said.

"It lifted the whole nation's atmosphere and everyone seemed a little bit happier.

"A win like that just changes people's perspective as rugby."

"I was so proud of the boys and I sent them all an SMS personally telling them they played like beasts."

Oosthuizen is expected to be named in the Sharks' matchday squad for Saturday's crucial Currie Cup clash against Western Province in Cape Town.
