Cape Town - All Blacks scrumhalf TJ Perenara has got engaged just days ahead of the second Test against French at his Wellington hometown.

According to the Stuff website, Perenara, 26, announced on Instagram he had popped the question to longtime girlfriend, Greer Samuel.

The Hurricanes star said, in a message tagged Mrs and Mrs P: "When you ask your best friend to marry you and she says yes".

Perenara and Samuel have been a couple for about eight years.

The couple's announcement was welcomed by a welter of well wishers, including Perenara's All Blacks team-mates Waisake Naholo and Nehe Milner-Skudder, who said: "Now get her another Super Rugby Ring brass".

Perenara, who has 43 All Blacks Test caps to his name, is expected to start on the bench on Saturday as New Zealand look to wrap up their series against their visitors having won the opening Test 52-11 in Auckland last weekend.

Kick-off is at 09:35 SA time.
