Cape Town - He admitted he still made a few mistakes, but Francois Hougaard said he was happy to finally start a Test at scrumhalf again for the Springboks.
As it happened: SA v Australia
Hougaard was named man-of-the-match following the Springboks' 28-10 Rugby Championship win over Australia at Newlands on Saturday.
The 26-year-old, who started a Test for the first time since 2012, showed marked improvement from his last outing, when he replaced the injured Ruan Pienaar against the All Blacks in Wellington.
He starred on defence and while there was a miscued pass here and there, most of the 119 passes he made found the right man.
"It's was very nice to start at scrumhalf again. I still made mistakes, but those things will get sorted the more you play," Hougaard told Die Burger.
"My running lines and decision making in terms of who I pass to still need a bit of work."
The Boks will conclude their Rugby Championship campaign when they host the All Blacks at Ellis Park this Saturday.
