Commentary by Sport24's Herman Mostert

12:15 - SUMMARY

Yes, Bismarck du Plessis was unlucky to be sent off, but I do think the Springboks didn't have their best outing. Too many passes went astray, too many balls were dropped and our discipline was below standard. We also need to markedly improve our defence, especially those first-time tackles as the All Blacks got over the advantage line too easily and too often. However, our scrum dominance and the resilience we showed to fight back late in the second half and almost snatch a bonus point were pleasing to see. Now for Australia in Cape Town in a fortnight's time... and lets hope for a better referee!

11:50 - BOK FANS NOT HAPPY CAMPERS

I would really like to blame the referee once again for ruining a good hard game of rugby but that would be an insult to REAL PROFESSIONAL referees, which this guy is definitely NOT !! This ref has no control of the game and very little idea on what is going on in front of him, seems the occasion and the crowd has got to him - again - Leon le Roux

The referee as usual not up to standard - Bismarck du Plessis very unlucky - well done boys with 14 men all of second half - valiant effort - Dennis Theunissen

All you can ask for is an even, fair contest to see who really deserves the win. Can't help but feel that was not possible with bad calls from the ref today. Valiant effort boys. Looking forward to Fourie being back - Adriaan Schalekamp

We never get a fair game with a french ref. The AB's outplayed us but didnt need help from the ref or disgusting swearing & booing crowd - Stephanie Whitaker

South Africans ruined Bryce Lawrence's career with lame petitioning online but Romain Poite is useless and far worse than him - Gareth Derek Hiscock

The referee today ruined a wonderful game that was shaping up as a true classic. Surely the result is less important than the contest, which the referee, paid or not, conspired to spoil for all rugby lovers across the world. Why are the All Blacks the beneficiaries of so many contentious decisions? - Grant N Munro

11:42 - QUOTE

"The fact that we played 50 minutes with 14 men didn't make it any easier, but credit must go to the All Blacks. It showed how far we are still behind them. Defensively we were very poor. We didn't step it up tonight," said Bok skipper Jean de Villiers.

11:39 - NICK MALLETT IS NOT HAPPY WITH THE REFEREE

"This is an absolute disgrace. That was a shocking decision. How can referees go and defend themselves for making ridiculous decisions like that? It's a disgrace and it needs to be said," Mallett on Poite's decision to give Bismarck du Plessis a first-half yellow card which turned into a second yellow and then red.

Click to watch Mallett's reaction HERE...

11:34 - The All Blacks did deserve their win, but there's no doubt that this game will be remembered for the harsh first-half yellow card Bismarck du Plessis received. His second yellow card was perhaps justified, but the first one was a perfect tackle on Dan Carter. And you simply cannot beat the All Blacks when you play half of the game with 14 men...

French referee Romain Poite will certainly be public enemy No 1 in South Africa this weekend!

11:31 - FINAL SCORE:

New Zealand 29-15 South Africa

CLICK HERE for a full match report

11:29 - A promising backline move is halted when Jan Serfontein drops the ball close to the tryline and the GAME IS OVER. No bonus point for the Boks. Five points for New Zealand as they go top of the Rugby Championship log.

11:28 - A good backline move is halted though as Kirchner is bundled into touch. Less than a minute left...

11:27 - Two minutes left. The Boks have an attacking lineout close to the NZ 22m area. We can still sneak a bonus point if we lose by only seven!

11:25 - Oh no, just as we get some hope, the Boks concede a penalty from the ensuing kick-off. Barrett lines up to kill off the game, but misses... with three minutes left.

11:24 - All is suddenly not lost for South Africa...

11:23 - TRY awarded to Lambie! Good call by the TMO. Steyn misses the conversion. NZ 29-15 SA after 75 minutes.

11:22 - Pat Lambie looks to have scored in the corner after a brilliant cross-kick from Steyn. Referee Poite wants to check though.

11:26 - Nonu should be cited for that as it definitely looked like a red card!

11:20 - Another YELLOW CARD as Nonu shoulder charges Jean de Villiers. Nonu was lucky not to have seen RED there. Simply a shocking performance from the referee, but the Boks now have the numerical advantage...

11:18 - Unfortunately the Boks lose the ball and the scoring chance is over as the All Blacks kick far down field...

11:17 - YELLOW CARD for All Black captain Read after he takes out Duane Vermeulen in the lineout. It's 14 against 14 for the last eight minutes!

11:16 - The Springboks get a shot at points. Attacking lineout five metres out...

11:14 - Jano Vermaak is now on for Ruan Pienaar. I think it's about time coach Heyneke Meyer thinks long and hard about having Pienaar in his team. He is simply to slow for a scrumhalf at this level. He gets caught in possession far too often and is way too upright in his play. The difference between him and counterpart Aaron Smith was massive today.

11:13 - PICTURE

Sam Cane - bloodied and bruised (Gallo Images)

11:13 - Barrett misses the conversion but the Kiwis now lead 29-10 after 68 minutes. Lets hope the Boks can add some respectability to the scoreline in the final 10 minutes.

11:12 - TRY awarded to Cane. That's the bonus point and the game I am sorry to say.

11:11 - Sam Cane goes over in what looks like the bonus point try. The referee wants to check though.

11:07 - FANS: Ref has ruined the game!

I was really looking forward the boks game today to have it ruined by a ref is terrible not just for the boks supporters but also for the all blacks supporters - Shauwn Ellis

This reminds me of the world cup. All their victories are shallow. Still not true champions to me. Such a huge disappointment - Justin Johnson

With such poor officiating, All Blacks will never lose in Eden Park - Sbu Makhutha

First decision no. Second could be seen as dangerous play - Ian Gray

11:06 - So it's a five-metre scrum to the Boks, but their tryline is a long way out as the All Blacks smell a bonus-point try.

11:05 - Read dives on the ball in the corner after a clever kick-through from Savea. Looks like he knocked it on though... The TMO or referee must decide.

11:02 - The seven-man Springbok scrum is now also under pressure. Things going from bad to worse it seems... NZ 24-10 SA after 61 minutes.

11:00 - Boks get out of jail with a few penalties and kick down-field. They get an attacking chance via a lineout drive but unfortunately the hosts stop the maul and win possession...

10:55 - The All Blacks launch an assault on the Bok line as they hunt their bonus-point try. Luckily Nonu knocks on close to the tryline.

10:54 - Mistake after mistake now as Ruan Pienaar drops a high ball just outside his own 22m area...

10:53 - TWEET

After the French were cheated out of RWC at this ground a French ref cheats us. What a joke - Rob Louw

10:52 - The rain has also returned to Eden Park, maybe that can help the Springboks...?

10:51 - TWEET

Du Plessis did not deserve 1st yellow card. The 2nd was not intentional - but possibly deserved. But not a red. Huge blow for Boks #rugby - Will Carling

10:50 - Poor handling now letting the Springboks down as well. Very poor inter-passing between the backline players...

10:49 - The All Blacks pile the pressure on the Springboks now, luckily some relief as the Boks win a penalty inside their own 22m area and Steyn boots it into All Black territory.

10:46 - Barrett CONVERTS. NZ 24-10 SA after 46 minutes.

10:45 - TRY! Read goes over under the posts. There will be too many gaps in South Africa's defensive line now.

10:44 - All Blacks have an attacking scrum five metres out...

10:43 - TWEET

Rugby is no longer a contact sport.! Come on, do me a favour.!!! Very poor ref - David Miller

10:40 - BISMARCK DU PLESSIS SENT OFF

Bismarck gets his second yellow card, which means RED. The Boks are down to 14 men for the remainder of the game. Unfortunately a POOR first half decision will now decide the outcome of this game...

10:39 - Oh no. Trouble. The referee has asked for the TMO to check if Bismarck du Plessis went into Liam Messam with a stiff arm... He did just that into Messam's face...

10:38 - Let hope the Boks make their first-time tackles in the second half, concede less penalties and continue their set piece dominance. Then we'll be in with a shot!

10:37 - Juandré Kruger is on at lock for Flip van der Merwe.

10:37 - The second half gets underway with Steyn kicking off...

10:36 - PICTURE

JJ Engelbrecht is too late to stop Brodie Retallick from scoring (Getty Images).

10:32 - Nick Mallett is not impressed by the tackles that Jannie du Plessis missed in the build-up to Brodie Retallick's try. He's also not impressed by the referee's performance.

10:26 - FANS FUME AT REF

Bok fans aren't impressed at referee Romain Poite for sending off Bismarck du Plessis for 10 minutes after he tackled Dan Carter.

The ref will again decide the outcome! I always maintain you first beat(up) the ref before you can win the game! - Antonio Coerecuis

No!!!! The ref is blind, drunk and has probably been paid like bryce Lawrence!! - Sandy McIver

No,, and I seriously don't understand why referees who struggle to speak and maybe even understand English is chosen.. think it makes everything harder for everyone on the field.. also,, why don't they just choose referees from the southern hemisphere?? - Sandy Nagel

no yellow but ref had to put his mark on the game after the all by both sets of player - Steve Haag

Never! Was a great hit, but apprantly you cant tackle DC to hard! - Andrew Ferguson

For using his arms in a legal tackle? really? - Deon Ozzy Krause

10:25 - Luckily nothing comes from it and it's HALF-TIME: NZ 17-10 SA

10:24 - The Boks get a scrum on halfway but All Black scrumhalf Aaron Smith goes off-side and the hosts win possession. The ball wasn't out though but the ref missed it!

10:21 - Boks launch a ferocious attack on the NZ line, but the hosts steal possession and kick down-field... Chance gone begging there!

10:19 - This just illustrates how important it is to control your kick-offs. The Boks did not on this occasion...

10:18 - Barrett kicks the PENALTY. NZ 17-10 after 34 minutes.

10:17 - Oh no, the Boks are penalised from the ensuing kick-off after Jannie du Plessis commits obstruction. Poor discipline!

10:17 - Steyn CONVERTS from close to the touchline. NZ 14-10 SA after 33 minutes.

10:15 - TRY!!! Bismarck gets retribution as he scores after a dominant Springbok driving maul!

10:15 - South Africa opt for touch instead of taking the three points... Big maul coming here.

10:14 - A first real promising attacking build-up from the Boks now... They get rewarded when Liam Messam is penalised or slowing the ball down at a ruck.

10:11 - The Boks are now starting to give away a few free kicks at the scrums too. Not good signs.

10:10 - Luckily Bismarck is back on now, with Adriaan Strauss off and Willem Alberts also back on...

10:09 - HAVE YOUR SAY

Was Bismarck du Plessis' yellow card justified?

Send your thoughts to: news@sport24.co.za

10:06 - The Boks are simply slipping too many first-time tackles here...

10:05 - CONVERSION by Barrett. NZ 14-3 SA after 23 minutes.

10:04 - TRY! Lock Brodie Retallick in under the posts after a brilliant break from Barrett. Poor defence Boks!

10:02 - The Boks are continuing their dominance at the scrums...

10:01 - PICTURE

Dan Carter is helped from the field. Massive blow for the All Blacks (Gallo Images)

10:00 - TWEET

Arguably the worst call for a yellow card this year... - Pierre Spies

9:58 - But Dan Carter is off! The hit from Bismarck was too hard to take. Still think it was a legitimate tackle though.

He is replaced by Beauden Barrett. This could, despite the yellow card, actually be beneficial for the Boks...

9:58 - PICTURE

THAT tackle! Looks fine to me... (Getty Images)

9:57 - YELLOW CARD for Bismarck. This is absolute rubbish from the referee. That was just a simple hard tackle in my opinion! Not high, not dangerous.

9:54 - TEMPERS BOIL OVER!!!

Tempers are flaring after Bismarck high-tackles Carter and the players get involved in a mass-brawl! Referee Poite wants to check for foul play... The tackle doesn't look that high to me though! A few All Blacks came flying in there unnecessarily...

9:54 - Steyn doesn't strike it that well though, but it was a tough kick...

9:52 - Great stuff from Bismarck du Plessis as he wins a penalty just inside the SA half. Steyn will line up for posts - straight in front about 52m out...

9:50 - Luckily Conrad Smith drops the ball in midfield...

9:50 - But the All Blacks are back in Bok territory after Zane Kirchner's kick is charged down...

9:48 - Steyn kicks the PENALTY. NZ 7-3 SA after 10 minutes. Great kick by Steyn!

9:47 - The Boks win a penalty at a lineout just inside the All Blacks half. Steyn lines up from about 45m out...

9:44 - The Boks are losing the early tactical kicking battle...

9:43 - TWEET

Very, very poor kicking by the #Boks there. Made to pay - Jean Smyth

9:43 - BLAME HABANA

Habana must take blame for this first try. It was his weak attempt at a tactical kick which gave the All Blacks the impetus...

9:43 - Carter CONVERTS from close to the touchline. NZ 7-0 SA after 5 minutes.

9:42 - TRY awarded! Read scores his second try against the Springboks.

9:40 - All Black skipper Kieran Read is over the line after a smart drive! The referee wants to check upstairs though... He thinks the try is scored and want the TMO to give him any reason he cannot award it...

9:40 - The All Blacks will have an attacking lineout five metres out after Bryan Habana poorly kicked away possession only to see Ma'a Nonu boot the Kiwis into a good position...

9:38 - MASSIVE first scrum from the Boks as they demolish the All Blacks on their own ball and receive a penalty!

9:36 - Boks steal first All Black lineout! Good work Flip van der Merwe, but the Boks give away possession...

9:36 - Play gets underway with Dan Carter kicking off. Ruan Pienaar gathers and solidly kicks out...

9:35 - Jannie du Plessis smiling broadly during the haka - which was again not the traditional one like it used to be done... Wonder what all the old All Blacks think of this "modern" one???

9:34 - PICTURE

Heyneke Meyer shows his passion during the SA anthem (Gallo Images)

9:33 - The anthems are completed and the Boks now brace for the haka...

9:29 - Teams getting ready for the national anthems...

9:28 - Kieran Read leads out the All Blacks in the absence of Richie McCaw. They receive a massive welcome from the crowd. It's the best atmosphere at Eden Park since the 2011 World Cup final.

9:27 - The Springboks appear on to the field and receive warm applause - no doubt a lot of expats living in Auckland...

9:25 - PUNDITS BACK THE BOKS

Three in-studio SuperSport pundits - Owen Nkumane, John Mitchell and Nick Mallett - have all called a narrow win for the Springboks!

They do sound a bit overconfident, but I believe we are in with a shot, especially in this weather and Morné Steyn's boot! We must also make sure we assert our dominance in the scrums and lineouts - then we'll have a chance...

9:12 - Ok, so it's confirmed now that it will be a slippery affair out there today. Goal-kicking will therefore become even more crucial and I kind of like that fact that we have Morné Steyn amongst our ranks today. Dan Carter could be under pressure if he misses a few early kicks as he also missed a few against Argentina last week...

9:10 - PICTURE

I know they said it might rain at Eden Park but this is ridiculous - Brenden Nel

9:04 - QUOTE

"It is raining, it is wet. That may just suit that big South African pack," says former All Black scrumhalf Justin Marshall.

8:55 - QUOTE

In-studio SuperSport commentator Nick Mallett says it's imperative that the Springboks start well.

"We can't afford to go down nine or 10 points early on because we don't chase games well," says Mallett.

8:51 - EDEN PARK SOLD OUT

48 000 fans will watch the epic clash.

8:49 - The word is that it's raining on and off at Eden Park, with the field looking pretty wet. Conditions that will suit the Springboks a bit better!
