Cape Town - Springbok coach Heyneke Meyer will name an interim captain as they prepare for a Rugby Championship Test against the All Blacks in Johannesburg on Saturday.
Victor Matfield led the team in last weekend’s defeat to the Wallabies in Brisbane, but the veteran lock is set to miss the All Blacks Test with a hamstring injury.
With Jean de Villiers still on the comeback trail from a knee injury and set to represent Western Province in a friendly clash against the EP Kings, the Boks must find new leader for Saturday’s game.
Vice-captain Ruan Pienaar took over the captaincy duties when Matfield left the field against Australia, while Schalk Burger took the captain’s armband when Pienaar was replaced in the second half.
Another possible candidate for captain is flank Francois Louw.
Meyer will name the interim captain later on Tuesday.
