According to the supersport.com website, Etzebeth was cited for an alleged headbutt on Wallaby lock Nathan Sharpe and his hearing will be held at 09:00 SA time - and Meyer has opted to place a call to veteran Botha if Etzebeth should fail in his bid to be cleared.

If Etzebeth loses his case, he will miss South Africa’s clash with New Zealand in Dunedin on Saturday. Kick-off is at 09:35 SA time.

“Bakkies is on stand-by,” Meyer told a news conference.

“We are in contact with Bakkies. We keep in touch with all the overseas-based players. The guys know who is on stand-by and exactly where they stand,” he added.
