Rocky's thoughts on the Wallabies

Cape Town - Heineken Rugby World Cup ambassador and former Wallaby, Rocky Elson, gave his thoughts on the upcoming tournament and the state of Australian rugby.

*What would be your dream loose trio if picking a World XV today?

I’ll be pretty bias toward Australia but if I was picking the team today, I’d have both Michael Hooper and David Pocock in there with Ben McCalman at No 8.

*Who is the best ball-stealer in Australian rugby at present?

David Pocock. He is a very strong bloke and gets his hands on the ball more often than not.

*Do you think Duane Vermeulen, more used to No 8 for the Boks, could do justice to blindside flank if necessary?

The big difference is the delivery off the back of the scrum. If he can master that, it is the same sort of stuff.

*Schalk Burger has had many health and injury dramas: is he still World Cup material in your eyes?

Yeah he is. He is a big game player. You just need to get him out there, healthy and he will do a job for you. I have no doubt about that.

*Questions always seem to be asked about the Wallaby scrum: will it be a weak area at RWC 2015?

It definitely will be under enormous pressure – there is no doubt about that. Whether they perform and stand up to the challenge that is up to them. They certainly have the capability to perform well but everyone is going to target them. Every good scrum pack they come up against is going to want to get a good result against Australia.

Life can change with the flip of a coin

To celebrate their sponsorship of Rugby World Cup 2015, and bring the public closer to the action, Heineken® has launched a range of limited edition Webb Ellis Cup bottles and cans that will paint shelves green and gold.

Every Heineken® limited edition Webb Ellis Cup bottle and can will feature a unique code under its bottle cap or pull-tab. Consumers who enter their code via USSD to *120*222# will stand a chance to win a VIP trip to London to flip the coin at a Rugby World Cup 2015 Game.

“Life can change at the flip of a coin and Heineken® is giving one lucky person and a friend the chance to change theirs by jetting off to London for a truly unique Rugby World Cup 2015 experience,” said Tjeerd Veldhuis, Marketing Manager, Heineken® South Africa.

With the eyes of the world upon them, the winner of the nation-wide competition will stand shoulder to shoulder with two of the world’s finest rugby teams. The winner will get the opportunity to stand on the field and flip the official Rugby World Cup 2015 coin and open up the game.

“As worldwide partner of Rugby World Cup 2015, Heineken® knows that rugby, like life, is an unpredictable game. We want our fans to embrace this unpredictability, and reward them in a way that only the world’s most premium beer brand can,” continued Veldhuis.

Heineken® unveils international legends

Heineken® will offer a unique and truly international perspective on the Tournament through the eyes of an elite panel in the lead up to, and during Rugby World Cup 2015. The line-up features the ‘who’s who’ of international rugby legends, including ex-All Black superstar Jonah Lomu former England captain Will Carling, and our very own John Smit, former South Africa Rugby World Cup winning captain.
