R2.2m dream car for Hougaard

2012-06-11 17:45

Durban - Springbok and Bulls scrumhalf Francois Hougaard has taken delivery of a brand new Audi R8 Spyder 5.2 FSI Quattro.

GALLERY: Francois Hougaard's new car

The high-performance car retails at over R2.2m.

Hougaard, who earned his 16th Springbok Test cap in the team's 22-17 victory against England last Saturday in Durban, said: ā€œIā€™m really looking forward to driving this stunning set of wheels. It has been my dream car for quite some time. A big thank you to my sponsors for making it happen.ā€

as hy die oond so vinnig skoon maak soos daai tjorrie ry sal dit goed wees

      Walter Bland - 2012-06-11 18:10

if he drives as fast as he gets the ball out the back of the scrum, the car wont go over 10km/h

      smallies - 2012-06-11 18:13

geen speeding fines vir hom nie hahahaha

      goyougoodthing - 2012-06-11 18:31

      Keep left, pass, right?!

      shakes.tshabala - 2012-06-11 19:00

He deserves a Ford Escort the way he played on Saturday?

      Thomas - 2012-06-11 19:36

Give him a chance as he is just starting to make the scrumhalf berth his own!! He will pull off a try saving tackle every game, and his workrate is unmatched!! We need him for the new Tri-Nations as Pienaar is out of his depth in that league!! What Meyer must work on is protecting the ball carrier, we are giving to many turnovers to the opposition!!

      TravieGrif - 2012-06-11 20:06

@Thomas. Stop taking rubbish. Pienaar is not out of his depth at all. The only problem with Pienaar is that PDV played HM at every position except hooker, and he was never given a chance to settle. He is a much better player than you are giving him credit for. He is technically a better scrum half than Hougie, but both of them are essential to the Bok cause going forward.

      TravieGrif - 2012-06-11 20:07

Not HM...that was supposed to read 'him'...bludy spell checker!

      Japjapjap - 2012-06-11 20:08

As di laaitie so 'n karretji kry omdat hy oulik is, behoort ouens soos FouriedPreez vir sy bydra in springbok rugby 10 Ferrari's gekry het?? en di hele weepee span 15 kruiwa's!!!

      Thomas - 2012-06-11 23:31

TravieGrif maybe I could have explained it better. I am not doubting Pienaars talent but his heart when playing in the trenches of Tri-Nations rugby!! You need "Mongrels" against the ABs Hougaard and Kockott come to mind, guys who give more than they get!!

      clifford.sithole.5 - 2012-06-12 10:28

He will probably put fur on the dash...

      Christopher - 2012-06-12 12:06

over rated player. Give me Pienaar anyday.

      dewald.botha.50 - 2012-06-12 12:20

They should have given him a truck, because sometimes he carries 3 defenders on his back!

      martin.white.w - 2012-06-12 13:29

Nice car. Just saw it in front of the hotel with the Springbok bus. I guess he's not riding the bus home tonight.

  • Burtfred - 2012-06-11 18:32

Obscene to give a 24 year-old kid a car like this. In the last test he played like precocious little brat. Ruan Pienaar came on and showed him how to play scrumhalf. This "gift" is certainly no incentive for me to buy an Audi, and especially not from the pink-shirted, self-important salespeople down at Northcliff Audi. I've been in their showroom and they look down their noses at you. I'll rather stay with Lexus, thank you.

      Ken - 2012-06-11 18:46

      Lexus.....isn't that a Toyota?

      Bootman - 2012-06-11 19:05

      Audi..........isnt that a Volkswagen?

      Frits - 2012-06-11 19:07

I agree with you 100%. Also, at least the Lexus (Toyota) retains some retail value, unlike an Audi.

      lance.elliott.3914 - 2012-06-11 19:07

Final question..does jealousy really make you nasty.. as the saying goes ? Most sports stars have to part with their hard earned cash to drive a car like that..the V10 nogal..the V8 version is already superfast.. Just hope the \SPONSORED BY..\ stickers have been requested in clear vinyl...enjoy and play it safe..

      Burtfred - 2012-06-11 20:01

@ken Jay May Ferrari - isn't that a Fiat? Rolls Royce - isn't that a BMW? Volvo - isn't that a Chinese Geely? And to Lance No I'm not jealous about an Audi A-whatever financial mineshaft. I drive a superb Lexus that retains value and easily outperforms Audis, mercs, BM's etc in the same class.

      Bootman - 2012-06-11 20:07

      I've got another one...............Bugatti Veyron.........isnt that a Volkswagen?

      chris.olivier.7 - 2012-06-11 21:49

Audi R8, so bad you'll give it away to the watchmen on Table Mountain b'cause no one wants to buy it, make you think.....

      Templar - 2012-06-12 12:47

LOL, I so enjoy the Lexus drivers, you can see their swagger a mile off and their car keys are always visible on their desks or at the lunch table. In the company parking lot they put up signs that say "Lexus parking only" while the rest of us park in normal un-marked bays and go about our daily business. Meanwhile those in the know sit and smile silently to themselves as they listen to the big talk and boasting of the Lexus crowd. It's a Jap car with a fancy badge boys, get over yourselfs. Oh, and Frits, keep telling yourself that thing about the value it retains, as long as it keeps you happy chum. But then again, who else would us guys make fun off if it wasn't for the jerk in the Lexus.

      phillip.havenga - 2012-06-12 16:57

Saying an Audi is a Volkswagen is far from accurate but also far from an insult, let's compare shall we Toyota's are bland and built like Coca Cola tins with horrible interiors. Volkswagens are considered segment leaders in quite a few classes as well as having excellent interiors as recognised by motoring magazines and are solid and in general good looking cars.

      art5SA - 2012-06-12 19:55

      LEXUS...2012 Township BMW.... LOLOL!!!!!

  • Ken - 2012-06-11 18:33

  • Barry - 2012-06-11 18:58

Can we not see another South African doing well, he has worked hard and sacrificed a lot to earn his car. Lets be happy for him I am and he deserves it. If I could play rugby like him I would also want a nice car. That is why South Africa is in such a mess because we cant see anybody but ourselves doing well, selfishness form a lot of readers.

Problem is, it is A SPONSORED CAR so it will never belong to him, I would rather just buy one and know that eventually the bank will no longer be the owner but me. What happens if they pull his sponsorship, do you think they will continue to let him ride around in that car or what?

      Nic - 2012-06-11 19:46

what??No car payment firstly!who cares if its sposored. Then there is probably a set period signed for the sponsorship. I do not know how these things work but when they pull the sponsorship someone else will sponsor him or he will buy his own. don;t get your point

  • Dean - 2012-06-11 21:46

Talk about wastefulness in government business will do better investing in social uplifting project then do this type of thing. Back to Rugby..... They must regret it know after he played liked...l. On saturday! But then Again I'm All Black supporter our players on average are payed comparatively far less then both the boks and English players. However they Play far better and superior brand of Brilliant Rugby. But then again disposing of waste cost often more (frot boks playing style). Than Growing and cultivating a good quality product which off course are why the All Blacks are bring more quality players though every season then any other union in rugby across the rugby world.

      Christopher - 2012-06-11 23:10

Well Dean I have met many New Zealanders & I have family living there & they all are very respectful towards South Africans & South African rugby. They themselves have said that for the last 80 years we have been their greatest adversaries, yes we agree they are the best @ the moment but if you knew anything about rugby you would know that the power shifts & you will not be on top forever. So I deduct from your trash talk that you are 1 of those fake South African New Zealand fans that want 2 call yourself proudly South African when the Boks win & want 2 call yourself a proud Bok supporter when we are on top again. Seriously if you don't know anything about rugby rather keep quiet because you are making a fool out of yourself & you make the real All Black supporters look bad. I bet you R500 you have never played 5 minutes of rugby in your life let alone even touched a rugby ball, so rather shhhhhhhhhh jy maak jou naam gat.

      staal.burgher - 2012-06-12 00:16

Yeah, funny how people forget that before Isolation the shoe was on the other foot.

      jacques.teebs - 2012-06-12 14:20

Ah another one of those wannabe AB idiots. I give up. You know, you guys are like stalkers. The same way women (or men) don't want, like or need the obsession or "love" of the stalker, just the same way, NZ (or the ABs) don't want, like or need you or your "love". Just try and move there or try and get a visa. Bottom line is, you're unwanted, but you keep supporting a country that wants nothing to do with you. You're unpatriotic scumbags, the lot of you. And please, don't come with apartheid and that crap. It's old and tired.

The Bafana players who play in Europe can afford their own.

      mark.dennill - 2012-06-12 11:36

in an unofficial news report "all bafana bafana mega stars where today sponsored mo-peds with training wheels"

  • Christopher - 2012-06-11 22:57

Lol lets compare rugby players salaries to NBA basketball players salaries. Micheal Jordan for example earned when he still played basketball, an estimated $76 000 000 per season & a season is about 5 months & that's without all his sponsors eg: Nike, his Jordan clothing brand, his colognes etc etc So do the math. My point is 2 all the people that complain about the amounts our rugby players earn, stop whining its peanuts compared to F1, Basketball, football, Golf etc Geniet jou kar Hougie, hope u play better next week-end. Boks to win game 2 & 3.

  • andre.potgieter.5 - 2012-06-11 23:13

  • clivegoss - 2012-06-12 06:57

Ek weet daardie motor ----------waai klink meer beskaafd.

  • Richard - 2012-06-12 07:23

  • Dirk - 2012-06-12 07:38

  • Jackson - 2012-06-12 07:56

  • Stuart - 2012-06-12 09:08

This is amusing, Audi Northcliff and BMW Northcliff are virtually adjacent to each other and only seperated by the Virgin Active building - BMW sponsors the Springboks yet a star performer will be driving an Audi, so much for brand association! It would be interesting to note how many active Springboks are actually driving BMW - Habana has a new RR Evoque.

      anton.bischoff - 2012-06-12 09:53

As far as i know they only get BMW's for the test season, not the whole season. Might be wrong
