Pumas snatch win over France

2012-06-17 09:15

Cordoba - Argentina scored a late try to complete a come-from-behind 23-20 win over France on Saturday as the tourists failed to end their 14-year wait for a victory on the Pumas' soil.

France led 14-13 at the interval before stretching their advantage at the Mario Kempes Stadium to 20-13 with two further second half penalties from scrumhalf Morgan Parra.

But Argentina, fresh from a 37-22 win over Italy last weekend, hit back with a penalty from skipper Felipe Contepomi before a try three minutes from time from winger Manuel Montero, converted by Contepomi, gave the home side victory.

France, whose last win in Argentina came back in 1998, had led at the interval thanks to a 25th-minute try from No 8 Louis Picamoles and three penalties from Parra.

The Pumas, however, had grabbed the first try of the match after only four minutes when winger Belisario Agulla had scored off an interception.

Contepomi converted before the centre also added two penalties.

The two sides will meet again in Tucuman next weekend.

Los Pumas and the French know each other's tricks so well that it's the same as two magicians entertaining each other. One magician pulls out a rabbit out of the hat, and the other says:" So what?. That's why the score between these two teams will always be so close. Still, credit to Los Pumas, they're a very strong outfit to be reckoned with and possess among other things one of the most powerful pack of forwards and scrum ( "la bajada") in World Rugby.

OS QUIERO PUMAS!! DE PUTA MADRE!! Well done and this is going to be a great 4 nations. There were talks of the pumas joining the 6-7 nations. Glad they are going to play real rugby down South. Only regret they did not come north is because Valencia (where I live) would have been their home base! Gonna be great having the Pumas runners up instead of the ausies or kiwis. Bokke bly die Beste!!!

Yes, I've also heard the same talk as to whether The Pumas might join the 6 Nations since most Pumas players play in Europe and the UK and a great deal of Argentinians hold European passports. I have to admit to the fact that Argentinian rugby owes a great deal to French and British rugby. However, now I strongly believe that Los Pumas, by being drafted into the Four Nations, will improve their game even further and become a formidable force in World Rugby.

Well done Pumas, we´re very proud of you. Thanks for the nice comments to the Argie Team. We´re not very estimated in football, but luckily we´re recognized in international rugby.
