Johannesburg - The Pumas duo of Doppies le Roux and Marius Coetzer have an ideal chance of impressing the Lions Super Rugby coaching squad after they were drafted into the franchise’s wider Super Rugby group.
Both players have excelled in a Pumas forward pack known for its tough outlook and play in-your-face rugby that could well help the Lions with the depth they need ahead of a long Super Rugby tournament.
Le Roux had a brief flirtation with the Bulls at one stage, but this is the first chance for the hard-nosed No 8 to try and break into Super Rugby while Coetzer, a former Waterkloof Hoerskool pupil, will be relishing his chance as well.
The Lions will be looking to add depth to their pack this season, having already acquired the SA Schools duo of Ross and Guy Cronje from the Sharks in the backline.
But for the two Pumas the opportunity is one that is relished and should they make the cut for the Neo Africa Series and have a few good outings, they may well find their Super Rugby dreams come true.
