Pietersen signs for WP

Cape Town – Former Bayonne fullback, Joe Pietersen has rejoined Western Province on a two-year deal.

WP Rugby made the announcement in a statement on their website.

He will join up with the Stormers squad for pre-season training on December 1.

Pietersen was released from his contract at Bayonne this week, which paved the way for his old province to finalize the deal, which was already understood to be at an advanced stage at the time.

Pietersen played 56 matches for WP before leaving for France and 21 matches for the Stormers, with his last match being the Super 14 final against the Bulls at Orlando Stadium on 29 May 2010.

Pietersen will boost the Stormers’ backline options once more as his versatility allows him to be capable of playing at fullback, wing and at flyhalf.

Province made no secrets about signing the 26-year-old shortly after securing former Bulls flyer Gerhard van den Heever’s services for 2012.

Can he play prop as well, both sides of the scrum!..... Rob we need front row forwards

Ha, ha, ha!!! Good one. :)

      Sedick - 2011-11-04 12:06

I agree. We need props/locks. He will be another back combing his hair while watching the WP/Stormers pack being pushed backwards in scrums and mauls, and being overturned in the loose. Oh yes, and he will have the company of Brock Harris at second and third phases.....

      Albertus - 2011-11-04 12:18

and the hooker out on the wing as well - half the problem......

  • Schalk - 2011-11-04 10:57

We need forwards! and not flanks, we need hard unfriendly SOBs that know only one way on a rugby field and thats forward!

      DuToitCoetzee - 2011-11-04 11:32

Flanks = Joe Pietersen ??? I agree on the props.

Wha-ha-ha-ha-ha. Please tell me it’s an April fool’s joke because it is very funny. Is he perhaps taking CJ van der Linde's position?

Great news, especially with Sadie and JJ gone and Habana on pension, but Guys, we need props and locks!

      Albertus - 2011-11-04 12:44

must be one of the current props not liking this comment LOL

Thats the best news I have heard!! He was one of our best players when he left. Hopefully he will bring back some attacking flair that we sorely lack at the moment. But our backline is looking hot (Joe, van den Heever, Juan, Jean, etc, etc, etc...) and our loosies with Duane and Schalk and Siya and and and...............Just the tight 5 to sort out...........Need Bekker back and two props.
