Spies extends Bulls stay

Cape Town - Springbok and Bulls No 8 Pierre Spies has extended his stay at the Pretoria-based union for three more seasons.

The Blue Bulls Company on Tuesday confirmed on their website that the 27-year-old has signed a new contract until November 2015.

This comes after speculation surfaced last week that the burly loose forward could leave the Bulls for more lucrative deals in France. French Top 14 club Bayonne was apparently interested in his services, with the club reportedly offering close to R15m over three years and a salary of €40 000 (R453 600) per month.

However, Spies said staying in Pretoria was an "easy decision" to make.

Bulls CEO, Barend van Graan, also welcomed the news.

“Pierre is a second generation Bulls player and has already left a legacy with us. To have Pierre around for the next three years, a period in which we aim to re-enforce ourselves as a team of excellence, is wonderful news and I am pretty sure our supporters will be very happy about this," said Van Graan.

Spies, the current Bulls skipper, is sidelined for the rest of the year after undergoing hand surgery.
