Cape Town - Former Cheetahs fullback Clayton Blommetjies has been put on a conditioning programme by his Welsh club Scarlets.
Blommetjies, who joined the Llanelli-based outfit in the off-season, started in the Scarlets’ opening PRO14 match against Ulster, but has not been selected in a match-day 23 since then.
Scarlets coach Wayne Pivac told the Wales Online website that Blommetjies should soon make his return to action.
"There is an adjustment period for Clayton and we are asking him to work on his conditioning," said Pivac.
"He has been asked to do a bit of extra work just to sharpen up on his match fitness. We do things a bit differently from the Cheetahs and expectation on the players is to be in a certain shape and Clayton has a bit of work to do in that area. He is doing that.”
The 28-year-old Blommetjies played for the Cheetahs between 2014 and 2018. Before that, he was on the Bulls’ books between 2010 and 2014, having played his junior rugby in the Boland.
