Ollie recruited at Griquas

Gerdie Karstens

Kimberley – One swallow does not make a summer, but three former Springboks may well help Griquas become Vodacom Cup champions this year.

Griquas have just managed to secure the services of a third former Bok, Ollie le Roux, as consultant for the series. They will use him as a scrum coach.

Le Roux played 52 Tests as prop, and 2 as hooker from 1994 until 2002.

The announcement on Tuesday is another towards Le Roux realising his ambition of coaching at the highest level. He was recently also appointed head coach at Bloemfontein Police.

Griquas coach Abré Minnie also recently appointed Anton Leonard and Edrich Lubbe as forwards coach and kicking consultant respectively.

“Ollie will attend our training as scrumming consultant for the first time on Wednesday,” said Minnie.

Le Roux will be involved regularly during the competition, and attend scrumming sessions at least once a week.

His appointment can be viewed as a smart move by Minnie to fill the void left by Dawie Theron. Theron was Griquas’ head coach until the end of 2010.
