The position is vacant after Pine Pienaar left to become the Blue Bulls' Currie Cup coach and according to the Volksblad newspaper Müller could be officially unveiled as the Vodacom Cup coach on Thursday afternoon.

This comes after Müller's contract as Cheetahs team manager in the Currie Cup was not renewed.

Müller was previously one of Free State's coaches in the 2004 Vodacom Cup season. After that he became the Cheetahs' backline coach in the 2005 and 2006 Currie Cup seasons. He has fulfilled the role of team manager of the Currie Cup side since 2007.

The names of Müller's two assistants are also expected to be announced.
