Maties lock off to Bulls country

Cape Town - Maties lock Reniel Hugo has decided to join the University of Pretoria where he will represent Tuks in next year's Varsity Cup.

According to the Beeld website, Hugo has decided to enroll for an honours degree in accounting at Tuks and will therefore play his rugby in Pretoria next season, which means he could come into consideration for Blue Bulls honours.

Griquas were interested in Hugo's services when they endured a crisis at lock in this year's Currie Cup, but Hugo's studies prevented the deal from happening.

But he will now join up with Pote Human, after Human announced last week that he will leave his post as Griquas coach to take charge of the two-time defending Varsity Cup champions.

Hugo's dad, Niel, was the first player to represent Western Province in 100 consecutive matches.

Meanwhile, a few more Maties players appear likely join Hugo in Pretoria.

Centre Louis Jordaan (B. Comm) and utility back Ryan Nell (B.A in Development and Environment studies) are reportedly also considering moves up north.

Nell made his Currie Cup debut when WP beat Free State at Newlands on August 17 this year.
