Luke to be a dad, talks rugby

Cape Town – Former Western Province captain and Springbok loose forward Luke Watson is going to become a father.

It is the second bit of good news this month for Watson, who was recently named captain of Bath rugby club in England.

Watson (26) married Elaine Locke (27) in Cape Town just over a year ago. They met at Hillsong church in Cape Town. Elaine has her own company that organises big events.

They moved to England in November after Watson signed a three-year contract with Bath.

Watson’s proud mom, Tracey, confirmed the news. “I’m going to become a grandmother! We are all very excited. Luke and Elaine are delighted. We can’t wait for the baby!”

The baby is expected in April next year.

However, Watson is not talking about baby matters on his Facebook profile and is keeping his fans informed about his rugby career. He proudly announced that his team had beaten Ulster 26-14 on Friday.

While fans are pleading with him to return to South Africa and “rescue” the Springboks, Watson says: Divvy has the players and resources to have a winning side at next year’s World Cup.

“It takes time to find the right combinations and game plan. The 2007 plan that won us the World Cup won’t work! We have to adapt and play a more attacking style of rugby.

“Some of the experience in the team has to be retained, but it’s time to bring in some young guns who are firing.”

Congrats on new addition. You are stating the obvious. Pity old Snor cannot see the big picture.

  • Ken - 2010-08-15 19:54

What fools are "begging Luke to come back". Leave him where he is. Province is winning now and they are a happy team. Good luck to Bath.

  • POOR CHILD - 2010-08-15 20:43

Their should be a law against Luke having children...we cant have another Lukie puking all over everything...

  • Rugbyfan - 2010-08-15 20:44

The guys is a liability and all he's doing by procreating is polluting the human gene pool. Pity he got Bok caps, because the English could've had him and all his c**p and kept him.

  • CHRIS - 2010-08-15 21:08

So glad you're happy at Bath ... congratulations on the news about the little Watson .... please stay where you are ... it clearly suits you and God knows, South African rugby doesn't.

  • 10111 - 2010-08-15 21:09

What fans are begging him? - haha, what a joke. Please Luke stay where you are... forever.

  • herman - 2010-08-16 06:56

Congratulations! Hopefully by the time your firts born arrives, you will be a mature grown-up! S A Rugby DO NOT NEED YOU, please stay where you are!

  • Stollie - 2010-08-16 08:03

So Luke, will you make sure you're wearing an imitation Springbok jersey when wifey asks you to burp the baby?

  • Jan - 2010-08-16 08:06

I hope it pukes all over you... Stay where u are, everybody is actually doing alot better without u, including the stormers... And for the so called fans that's missing you - please wake up!

  • Letona - 2010-08-16 09:11

Congrats with the baby big Luke. You people are pathetic, even if you don't like the man why insult his family be reffering to the baby as 'it'? Anyone with morals knows family is off limits. Blerry dutchmen ...

  • Concerned - 2010-08-16 09:22

I can't believe some people are so caught up in negativity about Luke - come on, its over, Luke is not such a bad guy, I have respect for him - both as a great rugby player and as a person. Good one Luke - congratualtions! Come back to SA as soon as possible, true rugby supporters miss your talents.

  • StormersSupporter - 2010-08-16 09:41

I cannot believe people can be so sick! I hope some of the people on this blog doesn't breed. Congrats luke. We could use a man of your talent back in SA. For people who only watch BB rugby, you would notice that WP started winning lots of their games after he became captain. And WP where always a happy team

  • dont - 2010-08-16 09:51

Hey Sicko, ...please dont puke on the little one...

  • WP fan - 2010-08-16 09:51

Congratulations Luke… the momentum you left WP in has paid off, ask the Bulls… even though province didn’t have their best performance of the season, they won the Bulls, who all thought they were going to be the team to stop WP’s wining streak… GO LUKE…! GO PROVINCE…! Those bad comments are all from non-WP supporters, they have always been jealous of Luke and his great qualities as a player and Captain.

  • BLOUBUL - 2010-08-16 10:21

  • adoption..?? - 2010-08-16 10:37

poor, ..poor, ..poor child.... ...maybe Pukie must consider adoption...?

  • ness - 2010-08-16 11:04

Well I have a 9 month old baby and someone bought him a Springbok bib so I wrote Luke Watson on it, I figured if my child is going to puke on a Sprinkbok it would be one who deserves it!!

  • Anti - 2010-08-16 11:10

Congrats Luke and Elaine! Also well done on captaincy for Bath, and WP player of the year and players player of the year at last years WP awards. SA rugby misses it's second best fetcher after Brussouw!

  • war - whites against racism - 2010-08-16 12:39

Stay in England Luke!!! We do not need you and your puked on Springbok shirt in SA. (By the way, welcome to fatherhood and lots of puke on all your outfits, that life with kids Luke) But stay there, we will do fine without your kind here)

  • Zee - 2010-08-16 12:44

You people are sick, seriously sick. You must have had a pretty bad upbringing to comment like some of you have. The normal rugby supporters will miss him, the racists will not. Congrats Luke, all the best for the future of your little one!

  • Shaheen - 2010-08-16 13:22

How childish can these Luke bashers be? Grow up people.

  • Richard - 2010-08-16 13:52

"While fans are pleading with him to return to South Africa and “rescue” the Springboks". Pardon? I missed this memo! All the best to him and his hot wife though.

  • PDV Supporter - 2010-08-16 14:00

Congrats mate. After reading some of the comments here I can't blame you for leaving. Maybe when we all grow up one day you can return with your family.

  • Gotti - 2010-08-16 14:05

Just a pitty, that people cant see what a talent u are...strongs with thd future.

  • TVS - 2010-08-16 16:30

Thats great, all we need is another little Cheeky, Puking Watson to add to our headaches.

  • Blue Jake - 2010-08-16 18:41

The guy talked a whole lot of crap and upset many people. We've all done it. I was one of the most vocal in critisizing him. Get over it. Even though he won't admit it, I'm sure he wishes he could handle things a little different. Congratulations to the Watson's. I hope the baby brings lots of joy. Unlike BALSAK's mother's laaitie.

  • StormersSupporter - 2010-08-17 07:32

Why can not all the bulls supporters be like Blue jake? Yes, he said stupid things. Like puking on the springbok jersey under jake whites rule. But the fact is that he is a brilliant rugby player and captain and a good leader. Regardless of his stupid comments. So grow up people.

  • CVM - 2010-08-17 07:56

Why do you even waste time on this monkey. Nobody cares what he does - that is why we had a party when he left. As for the kid - he should have gotten a snip when they noticed that the gag reflexes were not under control

  • yes - 2010-08-17 11:53

....yes, he did said stupid things... ...middle finger for him....

  • Nick - 2010-08-18 11:54

Grow up people- he has left ( hopefully for ever) - but lets not go down to a level which is unbecoming and insult the birth of his child - congratulations Luke - your views you are entitled to - we may not all agree - but you deserve the success that you are getting overseas and the joy that a child brings.

  • Johan Theron - 2010-08-19 11:52

Im sorry, if you play rugby for the Springboks, then you are a ambassador for your country. Luke is NOT an ambassador, so therefore it does not matter how good he is. He just doesnt deserve to represent SA, his "struggle" came long after the struggle.
