Lions name Super 15 leaders

Johannesburg - Lions coach John Mitchell has confirmed that eightman Josh Strauss will captain the side in the Super Rugby tournament, while centre Doppies la Grange will act as vice-captain.

According to the Lions' website, the confirmation comes as no surprise. Strauss and La Grange were at the helm when the Golden Lions won the Currie Cup last season and both also captained the Lions in the Super Rugby competition in 2011.

Mitchell also pointed out that the side has many leaders and a number of players are capable of leading them in the competition.

They have grown into their shared leadership roles as a team.

Cobus Grobbelaar, Wikus van Heerden and Franco van der Merwe have all captained at Super Rugby level.

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
