Visagie’s agent, Eduard Kelder, confirmed the move and that Visagie had agreed to extend his contract with the Lions for the next year. He will rejoin the Lions two weeks before their promotion-relegation match after next year's Super competition.
The Johannesburg-based team was replaced by the Southern Kings for next year's event and will play the lowest ranked South African team to try gain promotion back into the competition.
Other players also expected to leave the Lions on loan to other unions are flyhalf Elton Jantjies and utility back Jaco Taute. Both are likely to join the Stormers for next year's Southern Hemisphere showpiece.
