Kings lure Adongo to PE

Cape Town - Super Rugby newcomers, the Southern Kings, have signed promising Kenyan forward Daniel Adongo for the duration of the Super Rugby season.

The 23-year-old has had stints at the Sharks and Bulls and most recently played for New Zealand side, Couties Manakau, in New Zealand's ITM Cup.

According to Die Burger's website, Adongo is currently contracted to the Potchesftroom-based Leopards, and is being loaned to the Kings for the Super Rugby season. His team-mate at the Leopards, hooker Edgar Marutlulle, is also joining the Port Elizabeth side on loan for the competition.

The 1.98m and 113kg Adongo can be utilised at either lock or flank.

He told his birth country's Daily Nation website he can't wait to finally make his Super Rugby debut.

“I am so delighted that I should realise my dream of playing in Super Rugby after only having played for Blue Bulls in build up towards the 2012 Super Rugby,” he said.

He also thoroughly enjoyed his stint in New Zealand.

“My first season with the Counties has been superb and eventful, having been part of the team that won the Championship,” said Adongo.

Counties Manukau beat Otago 41-16 to qualify for the ITM Cup Premiership at the end of October.

The victory secured Counties’ first piece of silverware since winning the old second division in 1993.

Adongo is due to arrive in Port Elizabeth on Wednesday.
