Jaque, Fourie on fire in Japan

Cape Town - Springboks Jaque Fourie and Fourie du Preez are currently on top form for their respective clubs in Japan's premier rugby competition.

Fourie is set to become one of the best paid players in Japan when he takes up his contract with the Kobe Kobelco Steelers, and according to the Beeld newspaper the former Stormers centre is already proving his worth with current club, the Panasonic Wild Knights.

Fourie scored two tries in his side's 52-21 win over NTT Communications Shining Arcs, the team former Bulls centre JP Nel plays for.

Fourie recently secured a two-year contract with the Steelers. He is current playing for the Knights on a short-term contract.

His two-year contract with the Steelers is apparently worth R20 million which won't see him return to Cape Town to play for the Stormers next year.

Meanwhile, former Bulls scrumhalf, Du Preez, is apparently also on fire for Suntory Goliath who are the only unbeaten team in the league.

Du Preez's fellow team-mate at the Bulls and the Boks, Danie Rossouw, also plays for Suntory Goliath.

"Fourie (Du Preez) is currently playing very good rugby," said the Lions' former American flanker and now team-mate at Suntory, Todd Clever.

duh, these 2 were once the best no. 9 and 13 on earth at one stage! compare this league to super 15 and you can see why they are both gonna tear it up in japan!

You can expect nothing less ................ two of the very best players!! Pity the SA set-up can't "afford" these players.

  • Greg - 2011-12-13 10:06

Get over yourselves bloggers. It's called professional! These guys must make it while they can because rugby players pay for it later in life with their bodies (and surgeries).

      Joshua - 2011-12-13 15:04

True, but honestly if Fourie and Du Preez weren't doing well in Japan I'd be a little worried...

  • Peter - 2011-12-13 10:38

Names of the teams must be real tongue twisters for the locals.

  • Roger - 2012-01-30 08:59

I was disappointed when Jaque declared himself ''the best ouside centre in the world". Atleast now it may be partly true ...the best outside centre in Japan!
