Wellington - All Blacks, Hurricanes and Wellington fullback and wing Cory Jane is the latest high-profile player to re-sign with New Zealand rugby.
According to the allblacks.com website, 29-year-old Jane has extended his contract with the New Zealand Rugby Union (NZRU), the Hurricanes and his Wellington province through until 2014. It follows this week’s announcement that Chiefs pivot Aaron Cruden has also re-signed through to 2014.
Cory Jane announced the news to his fans on Twitter on Thursday.
Jane said: “I really enjoy playing my rugby for the Hurricanes and Wellington – it is my home and I love it here. Adding to that, I still have a desire to be an All Black and to play for my country so hopefully I play well enough to get more opportunities in the black jersey.”
Hurricanes Coach Mark Hammett said everyone in the Hurricanes would be celebrating the fact that Jane had recommitted to the team, and noted a growing maturity in him.
“Cory has really taken on a leadership role this year and has a great work ethic especially off the field. He is continually working on his game and is encouraging to the younger players around him.”
NZRU Chief Executive Steve Tew said: “Cory is a multi–talented, skilled rugby player and one of the real characters of New Zealand rugby and it’s fantastic that that he has renewed his contract with New Zealand rugby. It’s not only great news for us, but also for his many fans.”
Cory Jane has been a regular in the All Blacks since making his debut at the end of 2008. He has played 32 Tests for the All Blacks (and scored nine Tries), and was in outstanding form as a member of the Rugby World Cup-winning squad in 2011, playing in the final. Jane has been the first choice fullback for the Hurricanes since 2007 and will play his 61st game this weekend. He has also played 52 games for Wellington since making his provincial debut in 2003. He has also represented New Zealand Maori and New Zealand Sevens.
