Jacobs 'welcome at Stormers'

2011-11-24 22:04

Cape Town - Stormers coach Allister Coetzee says centre Adrian Jacobs is welcome to join his squad in their pre-season preparations.

WIN a Signed Springbok RWC Jersey

Coetzee told Die Burger newspaper they would allow Jacobs to join their squad in a similar way in which flyhalf Burton Francis joined earlier this week. Francis has the opportunity to convince the coaches to offer him a contract.

Jacobs arrived in Cape Town on Tuesday after his contract at the Sharks was not renewed. He expressed his interest earlier this week to join the Cape side. He also has options abroad, but first wants to spend some time with his family before deciding on his future.

"I chatted to Adi on Wednesday morning and told him he can contact me once he is settled in," said Coetzee.

"Adi is an experienced player, but we're not yet talking about a contract.

"We haven't chatted face to face yet. But he's more than welcome to join up with us."

Jacobs will add some much needed depth to the Stormers midfield after they lost Johann Sadie to the Bulls, Tim Whitehead to the Sharks, while Jaque Fourie will only return from Japan in late March.

Jean de Villiers and Juan de Jongh will form a formidable centre partnership, but inexperienced players like JP du Plessis, Michael van der Spuy and Berton Klaasen could struggle to make big the step up if either of the incumbent centre's get injured.

Jacobs's experienced could thus prove to be vital in a long Super Rugby season.

"Adi looks more and more like a guy that could fit in," said Coetzee.

There you go, has beens, rejects and refurbished players, all welcome at the stormers, Bhahahahaaa Wp=WeerProbeer bhahahahahaaaaa, it's sad, really sad.

      Walter - 2011-11-25 06:47

He's still a quality player and could very well fill the role he's been doing for the Sharks, now for The Stormers. I have a feeling he wanted a move or was not putting in the required amount of effort at The Sharks.

      BlouMasjien - 2011-11-25 06:54

And the Oscar for the best comedy go to . . . . .. . .prooooooooooovince

      Donovan - 2011-11-25 07:03

Walter. Can't you read? The Sharks did not renew his contract!

      Gungets - 2011-11-25 07:23

What a pity the Sharks could not see their way clear to renewing his contract. What a player he has been for us. He must be one of the most under-rated players around, he changes the game every time he runs on. Just like Ndungane he has been Mr Reliable. Huge pity and I hope he gets to finish his career with his boots on, wherever that might be. Hamba Kahle Adi, you are a good man!!

      Gungets - 2011-11-25 07:32

@Walter - You don't know Adi Jacobs if you believe he is capable of not putting in the effort. He knows no other way than 100%. With Province needing to rebuild their back line, Adi is a great team man with a good rugby brain. If you are lucky enough to get him, he will serve you well.

      Steenbra - 2011-11-25 10:22

And the bulls did so well the past season... S15 champs already

      Gillbert - 2011-11-25 10:25

well at least the bulls can say they won the super title, or sharks, freestate and lions that they have at least won something the past ten years

      Hugh - 2011-11-25 11:08

To the anti Adi guys, you cannot deny the impact he has had every time he came on the field for the Sharks. A quality player and credit where credit is due. On the flip side, when players reach their sell by date, the Team management must look to young blood. Cant think why he didnt move to Europe though. WP seems to be the Sharks dumping grounds.

      Daniel - 2011-11-25 15:31

      @Gilbert, you're and idiot

  • Gustav - 2011-11-24 22:32

I think Adi is only going to be used for those "easy" games in order to rest some of the other key players. If this is not the case then WP rugby should fire the current fools in charge and get some proper management. For the good of Rugby in South Africa this must be done. We all may support different unions, but at the end of the day Springbok rugby is the only rugby that should matter to us. Each and every union should be doing everything in their power to strengthen Springbok rugby. It's sad to hear about all the sad stories about promising young players going down the drain due to miss management at Unions such as the Bulls. Signing over 50 young under 19's for next year tells a story....

  • Polotic - 2011-11-24 23:12

We let some of the most promising young talent go to the Blue Bulls and the Sharks. We then appoint a Sharks reject. The WPRU cocked up the scheduled visit to Cape Town of the Saracens. There is something rotten in the state of the WPRU (with apologies to Shakespeare)! Those in charge of Western Province rugby must go.

      brian.heunis - 2011-11-25 05:48

A.G.R.E.E!!!! I'm seriously having second thoughts on renewing my season tickets! They are running Western Cape rugby into the ground!

      Facts - 2011-11-25 09:23

I agree 100% with you. Something is seriously wrong at WPRU. @Brian.Heunis Don't waste your time and money for next year because we are going to get nowhere with this team. You will see a very empty Newlands next year. Rather watch the Lions because they have a proper coach and therefore proud players that wants to play.

      djmain1 - 2011-11-25 13:40

Agreed - the WPRU blew the Saracens game with their greed. I will not be supporting them again by using their stadium. They can put it where the sun don't shine.

  • Taetjo - 2011-11-25 00:33

The Stormers need to start thinking properly! Jean de Villiers is not getting any younger. How can he forma formidable partnership with Juan de Jong? Juan de Jong formed a formidable partnership with Jaque Fourie in 2010. In South Africa we have a problem of worshiping players for what they did years back. To a large extent that has also cost us the World Cup. Benching Bismarck and Francois Hougaard was just wrong! Now de Jong might have to settle for the bench? Until when, when he is 26? This is pathetic!

  • Roy - 2011-11-25 04:38

He was not good enough to stay in the Sharks nor chosen for the Springboks why should he play for WP. Are we that hard up to choose a player who is "over-the-hill". Bet you it is a affirmative action. We have more than enough players who are on the bench and should be used.

  • Craig - 2011-11-25 05:26

Western Province the retirement home for all players in the twilight of their careers. Now you see why the youngest don't stay in Western Province, who wants to play second string to a retiree.

  • Albertus - 2011-11-25 06:09

This is ridiculous! Bulls rejects, Sharks rejects, Griekwas rejects, Boland rejects.... Where will it end - we loose Sadie to sign Pieman - good forward thinking Stormers Next you will have a cooking oil company for a sponsor

      brian.heunis - 2011-11-25 06:30

Don't forget about the Saffas that return via Saracens......easy route for them to get back into the mix here in SA. Ok, except if you are Marius Joubert.......

  • BlouMasjien - 2011-11-25 06:54

And the Oscar for the best comedy go to . . . . .. . .prooooooooooovince

      Francois - 2011-11-25 11:09

  • Donovan - 2011-11-25 07:11

Francois Houghart, Liefling Houghart, Morn Steyn, etc. all fr

      Donovan - 2011-11-25 07:12

all from the cape but you don't seem to keep them there? wat's the problem?

      BlouMasjien - 2011-11-25 07:41

      Terence.Craig.Berry - 2011-11-25 08:30

Donovan, Morne is infact from Bloem. Might have been born in CT. But grew up and schooled in Bloem. So I don't think you can really say that he was ever on WP's radar as a youngster.

  • Francois - 2011-11-25 07:41

      Lionel - 2011-11-25 08:22

Wie so jou keurse wees as Bok Kaptein en onthou hy moet ons vat na die volgende WB toe!!!!!!!!Hulle kan so dom wees soos jy se maar niemand is so dom soos Pedrie Wannenberg nie,hy snuif mos die wit lyne op Loftus!!!!!!

      DuToitCoetzee - 2011-11-25 08:24

Ai BlouMasjien. Hoe kan jy nou mense dom noem? Ek verseker jou Tiaan is nie.

      JacquesClaassen - 2011-11-25 08:36

@ Lionel Nope sal hom stupid noem!

      Lionel - 2011-11-25 08:42

Welgedaan Jacques,Bakkies wen die kompetisie by far.....,gee my ander name wie julle dink kan Bok Kaptein wees en onthou hy moet ons vat na die WB toe soos ek vroer gese het!!!!!!!

      BlouMasjien - 2011-11-25 08:54

@lionel, Juan Smith ,Bismarck du Plessis

      Lionel - 2011-11-25 08:59

      BlouMasjien - 2011-11-25 09:17

@lionel , Schalk kon as kaptein nog nooit n beker wen nie, choke altyd in die playoffs

  • Stormers - 2011-11-25 08:34

Mense, dink so daaraan, ek vat liewer vir Jacobs voor ek vir Meisiekind Olivier vat.

      Lionel - 2011-11-25 08:39

      So n bek kort brandewyn:):):)

      BlouMasjien - 2011-11-25 09:08

@stormers, ten minste lieg jy nie oor jou sussie nie.

      Lionel - 2011-11-25 09:19

      Alwyn,wat het van Lloyd geword?????????

      Daniel - 2011-11-25 15:35

      Hahahaha pragtig gese!

      BlouMasjien - 2011-11-25 16:27

      @ daniel, Dankie

  • John - 2011-11-25 08:38

EVERY SINGLE STATEMENT POSTED HERE IS LAUGHABLE!!!! Do you have to suffer from Alzheimer's to post on this board??? In the season that just past the Stormers & WP played U21's and were by some distance the youngest team in the CC. The selections were based on a horrific injury list plus to give youngsters exposure at this level. Do any of the idiots that post here know the WP academy identifies players at U15 and starts developing them. Oh BTW can these idiots remember who won the SA conference in the S15 this year ????

      BlouMasjien - 2011-11-25 09:05

Conference cup=consolation prize nothing more !

      Lionel - 2011-11-25 09:28

Blou, its better than not making the playoffs at all!!!!!!!!!

      BlouMasjien - 2011-11-25 09:48

@lionel, ek vat eerder 4 curriebekers en 3 superbekers

      BlouMasjien - 2011-11-25 13:55

      BlouMasjien - 2011-11-25 14:06

      Pieter - 2011-11-25 16:31

@John Who won the Sport-Pienaar beker in 1972?

  • elspeth.hassall - 2011-11-25 08:41

I don't care what any of you guys have to say....Adi has been a wonderful assett to South African rugby...he has always given his best for his team and his country.....he is a great sportsman in all respects.....he is also a wonderful family man and an example that all young sportsmen should aim to emulate. I am going to miss you Adi.....give my love to the cats!

  • paul.ramncwana - 2011-11-25 09:01

It's time 4 a New board & New Coaching Staff this is nonsense look at wht we bought for next season. Look at wht the another Unions bought for next season tell me wht the hell is Coetzee & Rassie doing.

  • Wimpie - 2011-11-25 09:23

We Dont need backline players !!!!! PROPS is what we NEED !!!! Alistair are u blind, dumb or ignorrant?

  • Francois - 2011-11-25 10:43

  • Francois - 2011-11-25 10:49

    15. Joe Pieterson 14. Gio Aplon 13. Juan de Jongh 12. Jean de Villiers. 11. Brian Habana 10. Gary van Aswegen. 9. Dewaldt Duvenhage. 8. Duane Vermeulen. 7. Siya Kolisi 6. Schalk Burger. 5. Andries Bekker. 4. Rynhardt Elstadt. 3. Brok Harris. 2. Tiaan Libenberg. 1. Steven Kitshoff.

      Pieter - 2011-11-25 16:22

      @Melt Hoeveel wil jy wed?

      Pieter - 2011-11-25 16:28

  • Adriaan - 2011-11-25 11:59

Giev Adi a chance, very talented player.

      Pieter - 2011-11-25 16:23

@Adriaan Hou maar by die Afrikaans jou onnosel sot. "Give" Adi a chance.

  • Chris - 2011-11-25 17:24

As ek verkeerd bewys word sal ek erken ek was verkeerd en my kennis van rugbyspelers as swak erken. n Man wie ek sal dophou is Elstadt.

Bottomline: WP/STORMERS = DEKADE SONDER ENIGE KOPPIES= JOKERS PF WORLD RUGBY

  • Ismail - 2011-11-27 16:51

Gilbert, yes you still think like a typical SA racist. You have sudenly and conveniently forgotten the good games he played for both the springboks and the sharks. If he was such a bad player why did the Sharks contracted him in the first place if he was a so-called "a never was" and a "benchwarmer." Look at the talent in WP and they,( as the money must circiulate in a specific community,) never get a contract because they have been born on the other side of the railway line. They will progress to U21 and that's where their careers end or they go to another province. Wake up and smell the coffee!
