IRB impressed with SA refs

Cape Town - The International Rugby Board is impressed by the recent standard of refereeing of some of South Africa's officials.

Craig Joubert's good performance in last weekend's second Test between the Wallabies and the British and Irish Lions has earned him high praise, while Rasta Rasivhenge was also lauded for the way he handled the Rugby World Cup Sevens final in Moscow last Sunday.

Another South African, Marlize Jordaan, also performed well at the same event when she took charge of the women's Bowl final.

And according to the Volksblad website, Joubert and fellow-South African Jaco Peyper have been rewarded with Tests in the upcoming Rugby Championship.

Joubert will take charge of the match between the Wallabies and All Blacks in Sydney on August 17, and will also be at the helm in a Bledisloe Cup match between these foes on October 19.

Peyper recently impressed when he took charge of a tour match between the British and Irish Lions and the Waratahs and the game between France and the Blues. That earned him the right to officiate the Australia-New Zealand Test in Wellington on August 24 as well as the Argentina-New Zealand game in La Plata on September 28.

Meanwhile, the referees for all South Africa's matches in the Rugby Championship have also been named.

They are as follows:

August 17: Chris Pollock (SA v Argentina, Soweto), August 24: Steve Walsh (SA v Argentina, Mendoza), September 7: Alain Rolland (SA v Australia, Brisbane), September 14: Romain Poite (SAv New Zealand, Auckland), September 28: Jerome Garces (SA v Australia, Cape Town), October 5: Nigel Owens (SA v New Zealand, Johannesburg).
