Galthie in the dark over White

Montpellier - Montpellier head coach Fabien Galthie said on Saturday he does not know when South African Rugby World Cup-winning coach Jake White will join the struggling French Top 14 side as manager.

French newspaper l'Equipe claimed on Thursday that 51-year-old White is set to join Montpellier as under-fire Galthie's superior on a six-month contract.

And although Galthie suggested it was a done deal, he said he had no news to share.

"I don't have any information," he said. "For now I can't comment on that, I'm not going to do anything silly.

"Wait for things to happen. Everything in its own good time. I'll talk to you about it when he's here."

Montpellier are out of the European Champions Cup with two games to spare after losing all four matches so far.

But last weekend they won their first match in two months with a 23-20 Top 14 success over Toulouse.

They travel to rock bottom Castres, the 2013 champions who have suffered a disastrous season so far, on Sunday clinging onto sixth position, the final play-off berth.

Since leaving the Springboks post in 2007 White has held coaching posts with Australia side Brumbies and then as director of rugby with South African outfit The Sharks.

However he resigned in September this year and has been acting as a technical advisor to the Tongan national team.

He is a two-time IRB World Coach of the Year.

No! I think the smart thing to do is start again with a younger skipper ...

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
