Cape Town - Former Springbok lock Gerrie Britz has called time on his rugby career after his contract with French club Perpignan expired.
The 34-year-old told Volksblad he won't be able to keep up with the younger generation and will therefore not be trying to obtain a contract with a local team.
The former Free State and Western Province player has a farm near Ficksburg and will try become a successful cattle farmer.
Britz spent 1 670 days in France, playing 111 matches for Perpignan and helped them win the French Top 14 title in 2009.
He made his Test debut in 2004 against Ireland in Bloemfontein and went on to play 13 Tests, his last coming against the All Blacks in Christchurch in 2007.
"I've achieved everything I wanted in my rugby career. I feel blessed and privileged," said Britz.
