Ex-Bok prop back at Cheetahs

Cape Town - Former Springbok prop Wian du Preez is back in Bloemfontein and will be available to play for the Free State Cheetahs in the Currie Cup.

Du Preez, who played one Test for the Boks against Italy in 2009, has represented Irish province, Munster, since 2010.

His agent, Stephan Weyers, confirmed to Volksblad that the 30-year-old will definitely play in the Currie Cup, which starts for Free State with a game against the Golden Lions at Ellis Park on August 10.

The Cheetahs, under the watchful eye of Os du Randt, have impressed at scrum time in this year's Super Rugby competition, with three of their props - Coenie Oosthuizen, Trevor Nyakane and Lourens Adriaanse - being rewarded with Springbok call-ups.

Adriaanse plays for Griquas, and with Oosthuizen and Nyakane expected to be away on national duty for much of the Currie Cup, Du Preez will add some much needed experience.

The other props that could be considered for the No 1 jersey are Caylib Oosthuizen, Schalk van der Merwe and Charles Marais.
