Du Preez to go under knife

Lyon - Lyon's South African prop Wian du Preez and French flank Pierrick Gunther were both due to undergo operations on Monday for injuries sustained in the opening match of the Top 14 season, a 18-9 defeat by Bordeaux-Begles, at the weekend.

Du Preez suffered a torn left Achilles tendon and Gunther, a close-season signing from champions Toulon, a rupture of the anterior cruciate ligaments in his right knee, medical sources said.

In a heavy blow for newly-promoted Lyon, the duo will be out for six months, with the club expected to recruit two replacements.
