Des Fountain leaving for Italy

Stephen Nell

East London – The huge number of centres at Western Province has prompted Dylan des Fountain to seek out an overseas challenge in Italy.

According to a planetrugby.com report, Des Fountain will continue his career with Italian club team Aironi.

The Free State Cheetahs were apparently also interested in his services.

Aironi will offer him the opportunity of playing rugby in the Magners League and Heineken Cup.

Des Fountain reportedly signed a contract of one year with the Italian club.

Meanwhile, Christo Buchner reports that the Sharks will take a first step in the direction of establishing a backline that can play with more authority when they take on the Valke in a friendly match at the John Vorster Stadium in Nigel on Friday evening.

The combination of a few old hands, coupled with some exciting young players, should give the coaching team some comfort that things will go better in the Currie Cup.

Most of the attention will be focused on Sharks fly-half Steve Meyer.
